Cyrus & Son Investigate Paranormal For U.S. Reality Show

Billy Ray Cyrus is returning to the small screen with another one of his offspring - he's teaming up with son Trace for a reality show about conspiracy theories involving paranormal phenomena.

The Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker co-starred on Disney's Hannah Montana alongside his daughter, Miley Cyrus, from 2006 until the series finale earlier this year.



And now he's signed a deal with America's Syfy network to star on UFO: Unbelievably Freakin' Obvious, which will see the singer and 21-year-old Trace travelling cross-country to investigate unexplained activity.

The Cyrus patriarch tells Variety, "The existence of paranormal phenomena is something I've always wanted to explore further. Getting the opportunity to take this adventure with my son, who has always had a keen interest in this area, is a dream come true.

"I hope this series can shine a light on some of the activities we have questioned, and the mysteries that have long inspired us."

Production on the series pilot is scheduled to begin this autumn. »

Rocky Horror Creator Granted New Zealand Residency

British writer and actor Richard O'Brien has won the right to retire to New Zealand after immigration officials overturned a previous ruling banning him from obtaining residency.

The 68-year-old creator of cult movie and stage spectacular The Rocky Horror Picture Show filed an application for permanent residency earlier this year, claiming he wished to live out his remaining years in the country he spent half of his childhood in. He moved to New Zealand with his family in 1952 and returned to his native U.K. 12 years later, when he was 21.

His request was denied by New Zealand authorities in June because he failed to meet the strict entry requirements, but officials have now reversed the ruling following an online protest by fans on social networking site Facebook.com, which saw more than 3,500 people throw their support behind O'Brien's cause.

Confirming the good news, his immigration adviser Dion Smart tells the Afp, "They've given him residency. His passport will be stamped this week."

O'Brien will be warmly received when he does finally relocate to New Zealand - his brother and sister still live in the town of Tauranga and his son Josh has also applied for residency after visiting the country on a student visa. »

Sarandon Still In Pain After Foot Surgery

Dressing up for high-profile Hollywood events has become a huge pain for Susan Sarandon since undergoing foot surgery earlier this year - because wearing high heels is so excruciating.

The Oscar winner injured her foot when she slipped in the rain during a charity trip to Haiti in January and the accident finally forced her to go under the knife to fix an ongoing problem.

Doctors shaved down Sarandon's bone and shortened her toe to alleviate the pain, and now wearing sexy stilettos to award shows and premieres has become a sore subject.

But the actress refuses to wear frumpy flats forever and may consider further surgery in the future.

She tells New York Magazine, "I had a problem in my back joint and I've been using orthotics. I didn't fall. I stopped myself from falling.

"It kind of got better. I wore a boot and faked it. But the doctor said, 'Why don't you just get a new joint?...' But right now I'm discouraged." »

Goldberg Mourning Mother's Death

Actress and comedienne Whoopi Goldberg is mourning the death of her mother, who tragically passed away last month after suffering a stroke.

Goldberg, who had been appearing in the London theatre production of Sister Act, cut short her run on 27 August to fly back to the U.S. after discovering her ailing mother Emma had suffered the health crisis.

The actress, who starred in the 1992 movie that inspired the West End musical, was due to headline the West End show until the end of August.

But the 54 year old's summer ended on a sad note - her mother passed shortly after Goldberg returned Stateside.

Revealing the news on the season premiere of her U.S. chat show The View on Tuesday, she told viewers, "My mum passed on the 29th of August."

She went on to pay a touching tribute to her mum, a teacher, calling her "one of the best people I think I've had the privilege of knowing", adding, "I don't think she quite realised how many lives she touched. She was an extraordinary woman."

But Goldberg assured fans close family ties are helping her to cope with the tragedy.

She continued, "My brother and I were very, very lucky to have her in our lives. And so, I'm not sad because she had a great time... I think I'm just sad sometimes because I think who will love me the way that she did? But I realised that my brother and I have each other so we're Ok." »

Penn's Rep Hits Back At Jean's Drug Allegations

Sean Penn's representative has fired back at Wyclef Jean after the rapper launched a bitter attack on the Hollywood actor and accused him of abusing drugs, insisting the allegations are "ludicrous".

The former Fugees star's recent bid to become president of his native Haiti was heavily criticised by Penn, who has been at the forefront of the nation's earthquake relief effort since the tremors struck in January.

He claimed Jean had been absent from his homeland in the months following the devastating disaster, saying, "It would be nice if he visited once and awhile (sic)."

Jean's run for political office came to an end last month when Haiti electoral officials ruled him ineligible to enter the race to become the country's new leader, and he decided to air out his grievances by taking aim at his critics during a performance in New York on Friday.

The hip-hop star changed the lyrics to his 2004 song President to blast the Oscar winner, singing, "I got a message for Sean Penn: Maybe he ain't (sic) see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine."

But reformed bad boy Penn has brushed off the allegations and fuelled his war of words with Jean by suggesting the rapper has no idea how hard the relief work is for earthquake volunteers.

A statement released by Penn's spokesperson reads: "Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti. As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body's immune system through the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous.

"More specifically, (Penn's charity) J/P Haitian Relief Organization (aka Jphro) has a Zero tolerance policy for any and all illegal drugs.

"As the leader of this organization, Sean Penn has not only set this policy, but adheres to it. That Mr. Jean would make such a false accusation is reckless and saddening, but not surprising." »

DeGeneres Strikes Deal With Online Giant

Ellen DeGeneres has struck a deal with communications giant AOL in a bid to boost the website's visitors and advertising revenue.

Bosses at the company approached Telepictures Productions - which makes the funnywoman's hit U.S. chat show - to negotiate a deal which will see the programme's website and AOL share traffic, content and promotions.

Although there is no money involved in the agreement, website bosses are hopeful the partnership will boost online advertising profits. »

Portman Thrilled To Work With Branagh

Actress Natalie Portman has thanked Kenneth Branagh for her role in Thor - she only took on the part because he's in the director's chair.

The Hollywood star will play female lead Jane Foster in the upcoming Marvel Comics film alongside Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba.

But Portman was all set to turn down an audition for the role - until she realised Branagh would be helming the project.

She tells Total Film, "It was actually not something I was dying to do. Not Thor in particular, but a big movie. When I heard Ken was doing it, I said, 'Wow that is a daring and interesting idea.'

"Then I met Ken and he was someone I was extremely interested to get to spend three months with. It was probably the first, or one of the first times that my expectations were actually exceeded." »

Colfer Was Bullied Over Sexuality

Gay Glee star Chris Colfer was targeted by bullies at school over his sexuality.

The actor, who plays fashionista Kurt Hummel in the hit U.S. show, admits his camp and quirky persona led to teasing by his classmates.

Since he shot to fame, his former tormentors have tried to befriend him - but the actor is adamant he'll never forget their mean behaviour.

He says, "Absolutely, yeah (I was bullied). I was teased every day, mainly because of my voice. They said I sounded like a chipmunk! Now everyone likes to remind me how they used to be my best friend, but I have a very good memory - that wasn't always the case.

"I was really intense at high school because I knew what I wanted to do. I was in a small town in the middle of nowhere and everything seemed impossible. People liked to feed off that and make me feel as if it was impossible." »

Crowe Denies Westworld Rumours

Russell Crowe has taken to his Twitter.com page to deny he's set to star in a remake of Michael Crichton's sci-fi thriller Westworld.

The Gladiator actor was rumoured to have signed up to a new version of the 1973 film, which was author Crichton's first outing as a big screen director and starred Yul Brynner as a gunslinging android at a fantasy theme park.

But Crowe has shot down the reports, insisting there is no truth to the rumours.

He writes on his Twitter.com page, "WestWorld purely a rumour, I've never been contacted about it."

And he also sets the record straight about claims he's taking over from late fellow antipodean Heath Ledger in Dirt Music, an adaptation of Tim Winton's award-winning book - insisting the project is a long way from completion.

He adds, "Dirt Music is still off in the never, never somewhere." »

Jolie Visits Flood-ravaged Pakistan

Angelina Jolie has flown to Pakistan as part of her duties as a United Nations (U.N.) ambassador to visit victims of the country's devastating floods.

The Tomb Raider star has already handed over $100,000 (£66,666) of her own money to help those worst affected by the disaster.

U.N. officials have confirmed she arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday to speak with refugees who have been displaced by the floodwaters - and the star hopes the publicity around her visit will boost aid efforts.

She told reporters, "I am very moved by them and I hope that I am able to, today and tomorrow, be able to do something to help bring attention to the situation for all of the people in need in Pakistan."

More than 1,500 people have been killed after torrential downpours caused the worst flooding in the country for a century. »

Garfield Wants Varied Career After Spider-man

Andrew Garfield has already picked out small roles to take on after he plays Spider-man on the big screen - because he refuses to be "defined" by the superhero role.

Movie bosses stunned film fans earlier this year after announcing the relatively unknown British actor would replace Tobey Maguire as the famous web-slinger in the upcoming 2012 reboot.

Garfield admits he worries about the amount of attention the coveted role will bring him but he's making plans to "offset" his biggest Hollywood job to date.

He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "(My plan is) not to give (fame) credence, not to give it any of my energy. Just approach it like any other job that I care about deeply. That may be naive of me to think that I can just get away with that. But if you give focus to something, it will grow. I just want to be an actor, really.

"And of course all those things came into consideration when I was making the decision. But at the end of the day, I had faith that I would be able to not be defined by it. And I still have faith that I will be able to get lost in roles and just keep doing what I love to do...

"I really want to do a play afterwards. I was already thinking, 'How am I going to offset this experience and create equilibrium within my system after this incredibly big thing?'" »

Miley Cyrus' mother has followed in her famous daughter's footsteps - she wants to legally change her name.

Cyrus' country singer dad Billy Ray and mum Leticia named their daughter Destiny Hope when she was born in 1992.

They quickly dubbed her Smiley due to her cheerful nature, which was later shortened to Miley, and the Hannah Montana star officially took on her moniker in 2008.

Now her mother is following suit - Leticia has filed to have her name changed legally to her nickname Tish. In the application papers, she insists she has been known by the moniker "for as long as she can remember", according to TMZ.com. »

Mark Ruffalo has credited Robert Downey, Jr. with inspiring him to join the Avengers cast - he wants to emulate his idol's superhero movie success.

Ruffalo is preparing to play Dr. Bruce Banner and his monstrous alter-ego, the Incredible Hulk, in the upcoming film alongside Downey, Jr.

But Ruffalo admits he wouldn't have been interested in joining the blockbuster franchise if he hadn't seen Downey, Jr.'s performance in Iron Man.

He tells Scotland's Sunday Herald, "I probably wouldn't have done this movie in the past. But because of what Robert had done and where that genre has gone since then, I did it." »

McCord's Number Posted On Facebook

Actress Annalynne McCord was left feeling exposed after an angry motorist allegedly posted her number on a social networking site.

The 90210 star was driving her sister Angel's Mini Cooper in Los Angeles last week (ends03Sep10) when she was allegedly involved in a collision with another vehicle.

According to TMZ.com, the actress accepted blame for the incident and apologetically passed her cell phone number to the other motorist so he could contact her for insurance details.

But McCord claims the number was later posted on Facebook.com - and the motorist has reportedly admitted he is responsible.

He tells TMZ.com he acted in revenge after receiving an angry call from Angel McCord following the accident. »

Magazine Bosses Back Duff's Wedding Photos Deal

A representative for a U.S. showbiz magazine has denied Hilary Duff's wedding pictures fee has been renegotiated after her snaps failed to sell copies.

The actress wed Mike Comrie in Santa Barbara, California last month and the pair struck a reported $1 million (£666,666) deal for America's Ok! magazine to publish the photographs.

According to New York Post gossip column PageSix, Duff was paid half of the money upfront, with the rest to be handed over once the publication hit newsstands.

After the edition only shifted a reported 290,000 copies, magazine bosses were alleged to be eager to cut the price of the deal.

But a spokesperson for Ok! refutes the rumour, telling PageSix: "This was a mutually successful endeavour." »

Horror director Eli Roth's pet pig is causing a disturbance in his swanky Los Angeles neighbourhood, because it won't stop screeching.

The Hostel filmmaker is the proud owner of a miniature pig but admits the creature has caused him a lot of problems with his famous neighbours.

He tells Britain's Empire magazine, "I recently got a micro-pig, and my pig is so loud, it screeches like a hawk. I tried to take it for a walk, so it goes down the stairs, then it starts screaming.

"My neighbours come out of their house and they think that I'm stabbing someone. So I point to my micro-pig and say, 'It was him, it was him!' They look at this little tiny thing and go, 'Yeah, right.'

"It's funny, because all my neighbours are rock and roll, but they're actually the quietest neighbours in the world. Kanye West and Johnny (Rzeznik) from the Goo Goo Dolls - both really, really quiet." »

Garfield: 'Spider-man Role Is Childhood Dream'

Andrew Garfield is more than ready to step into Tobey Maguire's shoes as Spider-man - insisting he's been preparing to play the superhero since he was aged four.

The British actor is preparing to replace Maguire after he stepped down from the web-slinging role earlier this year - and the 27 year old insists he's fulfilling a childhood dream by joining the franchise.

He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, 'Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you've always wanted to be all your life, and we're going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you're going to feel like you're swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?' 'Let me just consult with my seven-year-old self and see what he thinks!'

"Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it's just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure.

"It's a true f**king honour to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it's meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people. Affleck Keeps I'm Still Here Audience Guessing

Casey Affleck is keeping audiences guessing over the authenticity of his new Joaquin Phoenix rap documentary I'm Still Here - because he wants viewers to form their own "interpretation".

Affleck makes his directorial debut with the film, which follows his actor brother-in-law Phoenix's attempt to reinvent himself by launching a hip-hop career.

Several critics have suggested the movie is an elaborate hoax but, speaking at the movie's premiere at the Venice Film Festival in Italy on Monday, Affleck admitted he wants viewers to be confused.

He told reporters, "Elliptically, I would say... I sincerely don't want to influence people's interpretation. I can tell you there is no hoax. It makes me think of Candid Camera or something...

"I'm very interested to hear those sorts of reactions and I appreciate that point of view, and I understand how a lot of this movie could be confusing in terms of, 'Oh well, it seems like something's real or not real.'"

But Affleck caused further confusion when he revealed that rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs' cameo role in the project was "an act".

He explained, "The role that (Combs) played in Joaquin's life was to be the bearer of bad news. He was the hammer that crushed the dream. All of that is a little bit of an act." »

Freeman Snubs Hobbit For Holmes

British actor Martin Freeman has reportedly turned down a lead role in The Hobbit - so he can continue playing Sherlock Holmes' sidekick on U.K. TV.

The Love Actually star was approached to appear in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel but was forced to reject the offer because he is still under contract to play Dr Watson on the BBC's series Sherlock.

A source tells Britain's The Sun, "It was one of the most difficult decisions of his career. MGM, who are making the film, only got a formal offer over in the last couple of weeks.

"It was too late for Martin because he had already signed up for another series of Sherlock. It was agonising but he had no other choice."

Director Peter Jackson is said to be searching for an unknown to take the role. »

Las Vegas Jailers Rushed To Release Hilton

Las Vegas officials have defended their decision to expedite Paris Hilton's recent release from jail, insisting the socialite needed to be discharged quickly to avoid any disruptions to normal operations.

The heiress was arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession last month and taken to Sin City's Clark County Detention Center, where she waited just three hours until she was freed.

The average booking time for individuals facing the same charge is six hours - but jail officials admit Hilton was given preferential treatment for her own protection.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Jim Dixon, who runs the centre, claims Hilton needed to be rushed through the booking process in order to get her into an individual room and out of the prison as soon as possible.

He explains to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, "She was treated differently so I don't have a disruption of my process here at the county jail.

"When you bring somebody in like that, everybody comes over and tries to look at them. I'd have officers attempting to keep inmates away from her. I'd have disruptions." »

Scandal-plagued socialite Paris Hilton has been voted the worst celebrity role model in a new online poll.

Three summer drug arrests, in South Africa, France and Las Vegas, have dented the heiress' reputation - and prompted internet users to flock to WENN.com and vote in their droves in a new rubbish role models survey.

Hilton landed a comprehensive 43 per cent of all votes, destroying the competition - which includes Lindsay Lohan, who has spent time behind bars and in rehab this summer.

Lohan finished second with 23 per cent ahead of Jersey Shore reality TV star Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi. Chris Brown came in fourth, followed by incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne.

Hilton was last week charged with suspicion of possession of cocaine in Las Vegas. She faces up to four years in prison and a $5,000 (GBP3,333) fine if convicted. The socialite is scheduled to appear in court on 27 October for arraignment. »

Olympians and Tour de France veterans Levi Leipheimer and George Hincapie and this year’s top U.S. Tour de France finisher, Chris Horner, will join the Enchanted star for his 100-mile Dempsey Challenge on 3 October.

Clarkson Heartbroken About Oil Disaster Damage

Actress Patricia Clarkson has been left devastated by the damage the Bp oil disaster has done to her home state of Louisiana and she fears the area will never recover.

Oil bosses and experts spent over 100 days trying to fix the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, but Clarkson insists too little was done too late, and she's heartbroken by the tragedy, ruled America's worst environmental disaster.

Clarkson was optimistic after the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina, which ravaged her home city of New Orleans, but she admits it's tough to smile through the latest wave of misfortune to hit the area.

She tells BlackBook magazine, "I've never seen anything like it. The wildlife that has been killed will never come back.
