Crawford Thanks Law Officials Who Cracked Extortion Case
3 hours ago
Former supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber have praised those responsible for putting a sick blackmailer behind bars.
Edis Kayalar, 26, was charged with attempting to extort $100,000 (£62,500) from the couple after threatening to sell a photo of their young daughter, Kaia Jordan, tied to a chair to the media.
The seven year old was reportedly playing a game at home when the picture was taken by a nanny.
The news of the blackmail attempt broke last year after Gerber reportedly paid Kayalar $1,000 (£625) to keep the photo away from the media, but he turned to officials at America's Federal Bureau of Investigation when the extortionist made further demands for cash.
Kayalar fled the U.S. in September but surrendered himself to police in Germany in November after U.S. authorities appealed for international help in tracking him down.
He was convicted of attempted blackmail at a court in Germany on Tuesday and handed a two-year prison sentence.
Crawford and Gerber spoke out on Wednesday, thanking officials for bringing the case to a swift conclusion.
A statement released by the pair reads: "We want to express our gratitude to the FBI, the U.S. District Attorney's Office in Los Angeles and the German law-enforcement authorities for their co-ordination and efforts in this case." »

Margulies Confronted Roberts About Restaurant Etiquette

Julianna Margulies waited almost two decades to confront Julia Roberts after waiting on her as a struggling actress - because she was so shocked by the Pretty Woman star's obnoxious restaurant behaviour.

Laughing off the incident she says, "I worked at one of these restaurants where it was only famous people who came in and years later I bumped into one of them - Julia Roberts. She is lovely - when you're not waiting on her."
But Margulies insists the pair became fast friends, after she confronted the Hollywood star when she too was famous.
She adds, "She and I talked about it... I said, 'You know, I waited on you once.' And she said, 'Oh God, was I horrible?' I said, 'Yeah, kind of.' She said, 'I was young.' Fawcett's Family Receives Academy Apology

Academy Awards bosses have officially apologised to Farrah Fawcett's family for leaving the late actress out of a tribute at the recent ceremony.
The Charlie's Angels star, who lost her battle with cancer last year, was not included in the annual In Memoriam list at the show, which honours stars who have died in the last 12 months.

Corey Haim Dead At 38
Canadian actor Corey Haim has died in California after allegedly suffering a drug overdose.
The 38-year-old star reportedly collapsed at his home in Oakwood in the early hours of Wednesday morning and his distraught mother called emergency services. He was taken to St Joseph's hospital in Burbank, where he was pronounced dead.
Sergeant Frank Albarren, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, tells MSNBC.com, "It was an apparent overdose. Unknown what type of medication."
Haim had reportedly been sick in the days before his death, suffering flu-like symptoms, according to TMZ.com.
The actor had a history of drug problems and had spoken candidly of his longrunning battle with substance abuse.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Haim broke into acting in the 1980s on Canadian TV show The Edison Twins, before making his film debut opposite Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. in 1984's Firstborn.
He appeared opposite Point Break actor Gary Busey as a paraplegic boy in the big screen version of Stephen King's Silver Bullet, before shooting to international stardom as the lead in 1986's Lucas - alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder.
Haim went on to film eight hit movies with his child star namesake Corey Feldman, including The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Watchers and Dream A Little Dream, leading the actors to be dubbed 'The Two Coreys'.
Haim was awarded two Young Artist Awards during the 1980s - Exceptional Young Actor in TV show A Time to Live in 1985, and Best Young Actor in 1989, which he shared with Feldman for their parts in License to Drive.
But as rumours of a serious drug problem began to surface in the 1990s, his career took a dip with a string of straight-to-video movies including Blown Away and National Lampoon's Last Resort.
In 1993, he was charged for pulling out a fake handgun during a bust-up with his business manager. The charges were later reduced from felony to misdemeanour.
In 1996 he was sued for $375,000 (£250,000) after pulling out of film Paradise Bar because of his drug problem, which he had reportedly failed to mention on his insurance form. With his financial problems spiralling out of control, Haim filed for bankruptcy in 1997.
The actor reportedly checked himself into rehab 15 times in a bid to battle his drug demons, and in 2001 was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California after reportedly suffering a drug-induced stroke.
But in 2004 he moved back to his native Toronto and appeared to have overcome his problems.
In recent years, Haim attempted to resurrect his career, filming reality show The Two Coreys with Feldman in 2007, and in 2008 he shot minor scenes for Lost Boys: The Tribe, reprising his 1987 role.
The two actors' screen reunion was short-lived - Feldman, who has also struggled with drug problems, reportedly refused to continue working and communicating with Haim until he beat his addiction.
At the time of his death, Haim had signed up to appear in a number of productions, which were slated for release later this year, including The Science of Cool opposite Mischa Barton, The Throwaways alongside pop star-turned-actor Luke Goss, and action thriller The Dead Sea.
Haim was briefly engaged to Nicole Eggert, Holly Fields, and Cindi Guyer, and has previously dated Victoria Beckham and Alyssa Milano, but it is unknown if he was in a relationship at the time of his death. »

Damon Relied On Soldier Co-stars In Green Zone
13 hours ago
Matt Damon was grateful when actual U.S. soldiers were cast alongside him in Green Zone - because they were able to share their own war experiences to ensure his portrayal was authentic.
The actor plays an army officer searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq in the new thriller, which features dozens of real military members.
Damon admits it was a challenge to play their leader, but was relieved to have their input.
He tells Britain's Live From Studio Five, "A big part of the role for me was getting comfortable enough to give these guys orders because I did not feel that I was qualified to do that!
"As an actor you're always just trying to be believable - that's really my only job. If at any point you don't believe what I'm doing or I am who I say I am, then I've failed. As a result you end up seeing actors spend a lot of time close to their technical advisors, the experts who are on the set to help.
"So having 30 guys who just got back from Iraq made it really easy to fall into this (role) but also they helped me and pointed things out to me...
"To their credit, they bought into the whole world that we were creating. They wanted the film to be good and they wanted my portrayal to feel authentic, so they realised really quickly that their help was a welcome thing." »

Bridges Regrets Keeping Kids From Spotlight

Oscar winner Jeff Bridges regrets he never encouraged his three daughters to act - but hopes one day they'll "stumble" into the industry.
The Crazy Heart star thanked his actor parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges, for introducing him to the profession when he accepted the Best Actor award at the Oscars on Sunday.
And Bridges admits he's beginning to wish he'd pushed his daughters - Isabelle, 28, Jessica, 26, and 24-year-old Haley - to step in front of the camera.
He explains, "I didn't make it as available to them as my dad did with us. Not that he was a stage parent - he just enjoyed it so much that he wanted to turn his kids on to it. And he was right, I've had a wonderful life. I didn't do it with my kids and I kind of regret it a little bit. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they stumbled into it some day. They've got it in their blood, three generations of it."
But he's happy his girls have been shielded from the negative aspects of fame: "Growing up in Hollywood, I've seen the downside to being too famous. You have to start thinking about staying on top, you have to get calculating, and you can't walk down the street. They have never been attractive prospects to me. Less fame would be better than more." »

Neighbours Shoot Halted After On-set Drama
13 hours ago
Filming on Australian soap opera Neighbours was halted last week (beg01Mar10) after police were called to deal with an actor in a "distressed" state who began smashing up the set.
Producers on the TV show stopped the shoot on Friday and called emergency services after the unnamed extra started behaving in "an extraordinary way" - breaking objects in the Melbourne studio and accidentally slicing her wrist on some cut glass.
Filming was cancelled and the cast was escorted away from the set while police and ambulance crews dealt with the woman, who was later admitted to hospital.
Neighbours executive producer Susan Bower tells Australia's Herald Sun newspaper, "It was a bit of a shock. One of our regular extras wasn't really feeling the best and started behaving in an extraordinary way. She was very distressed and swung her hand and knocked a glass off a table."
Producer Neal Kingston adds, "We were concerned for the welfare of everyone and removed all cast and crew until the police arrived to assess the situation. She broke a couple of items so we cleared the situation to make sure everyone was Ok and waited for authorities to arrive. She was assisted by police and went willingly outside with them. Authorities assessed the situation and (the) cut on her hand and decided to seek further treatment. Lohan's Mum Wades Into Advert Lawsuit
13 hours ago
Lindsay Lohan's mum Dina has backed her daughter's multi-million dollar legal battle over an advert which allegedly used the actress' name and poked fun at her personal problems - branding the commercial "horrible" and "mean".
The Mean Girls star is seeking $100 million (£66.7 million) in damages and compensation in connection with the promo for financial firm E-Trade, which depicts a baby girl called Lindsay as a boyfriend stealer and a "milkaholic".
Lohan filed a lawsuit on Monday at Nassau County Supreme Court over the advert, which debuted on U.S. TV during the Super Bowl last month.
The star's lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, alleges company bosses used Lohan's "name and characterisation" without paying her or asking for her approval, thus violating her rights, while chiefs at the advertising firm behind the commercial claim they chose the name Lindsay at random.
And now Dina Lohan has defended her daughter's decision to sue, insisting the advert reduced the actress to tears during the Super Bowl celebrations.
Dina claims the 23 year old called her after the Super Bowl "extremely upset", telling The New York Post, "She said, 'Mommy, help me. This is wrong. How can they do this?'"
Lohan's mother is adamant the commercial was aimed at her daughter - insisting the name Lindsay has as much recognition as other single-word monikers, used by stars such as Madonna and Cher.
She adds, "They're little babies doing this, mocking another child who's just trying to survive Hollywood, basically. I'm just basically glad I took a stand. I'm not going to let them do this to us anymore. Everyone knows Lindsay, like Cher or Madonna."
Lohan is seeking $50 million (£33 million) in exemplary damages, as well as $50 million (£33 million) in compensation. »

Williams Sued By Studio Owner

Katt Williams is in trouble over another allegedly unpaid bill - a recording studio owner is suing him for $1 million (£666,667) amid allegations the star attacked him when he was challenged over an outstanding debt.
The rapper/comedian has seen his financial problems spiral over the last few months, with bosses at a construction company recently filing suit against the star for allegedly failing to settle a bill for work carried out at his home in Calabasas, California last year.
He's now been targeted in a lawsuit from Merion Powers, who states Williams used his Atlanta, Georgia facilities to record comedy routines in October, but allegedly failed to pay for the studio time.
In a lawsuit filed at Fulton County Superior Court, Powers claims the star's dog attacked one of his own pets during the recording sessions and he later met up with Williams to discuss the incident and collect the $28,600 (£19,067) bill.
The studio owner alleges he was restrained by one of the funnyman's bodyguards, while the star punched him in the face and threatened to kill him, according to Allhiphop.com.
Powers is seeking at least $1 million (£666,667) in damages for assault, battery, false imprisonment, damage to property and intentional infliction of emotional distress, as well as the allegedly unpaid recording bill. »

He pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession of heroin, and will remain behind bars until he is handed his sentence in April.
At a recent bail hearing, Cameron's lawyers blamed his superstar father for his problems - insisting the 31 year old turned to drugs because he was "hurt" by Douglas' celebrity status and his "difficult upbringing".
Labeouf recently began working with Douglas on upcoming movie, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and admits his 65-year-old co-star has been suffering greatly because of Cameron's ongoing troubles.
He tells German website Gala.de, "I met a broken man, not Michael Douglas the celebrity. This man suffers; he's going through a crisis. He fears for his son. Cameron is facing a prison sentence because of his drug dealing. When I worked with Michael, he would visit his son in prison before he arrived at the set. It was really difficult for him."
And the Transformers star reveals director Oliver Stone tried to accommodate Douglas' situation - but found it difficult because of the tight filming schedule.
He adds, "Oliver was really sensitive, but he had to finish his film at the same time. That's why there wasn't a lot of time left to comfort Michael. That was tough." »

Bridges: 'I'd Never Have A Fling With Co-star'
Oscar winner Jeff Bridges would never cheat on his wife Susan with a co-star - because an affair would cost him "everything".
The Crazy Heart star, who scooped the Best Actor prize at Sunday's Academy Awards, credits his partner with much of his success, and insists he'd never risk their 33-year relationship for a fling with an actress.
He says, "I'm so in love with her. The relationship just keeps getting better and more intimate and sexier and all that stuff. If you change partners every time it gets tough or you get a little dissatisfied, then you don't get the richness that's available in a long-term relationship. My wife supports me and it makes me love her more. You don't want to mess around with that.
"(But) it was harder earlier on. Getting married was frightening. No matter how much womanising you do as a single guy, you always think there's more to be done. You don't want to get sexually involved with the other actor.
"It spells trouble. My family was and is too precious to me. I know sex can lose you everything."
And Bridges, who has starred opposite Hollywood beauties Kim Basinger and Michelle Pfeiffer, insists he fell in love with Susan when she was working as a waitress and sporting two black eyes and a broken nose.
He recalls, "I was filming Rancho Deluxe and she was absolutely gorgeous - even though she'd been in this car accident. I asked her out and she turned me down saying something like, 'All you Hollywood guys think you can come in and get any girl in town. Forget about it. Maybe I'll see you around.' Well, I did see her around and kept after her." »

"She's beautiful. She's amazing. She takes my breath away. Sometimes I look at her and I do, I just lose my breath."
And the mechanic had no problems leaving his garage to accompany Bullock for the evening, adding, "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support my wife and her work. She does it all the time for me. She goes to Mexico, to the desert, to the hospital - a lot - to support me and my work. The least I can do is put on a suit and support her." »

Actress Robin Wright has exploded a movie myth - late wrestling icon and movie star Andre The Giant was in so much pain during the making of cult 1987 film The Princess Bride he couldn't even carry the actress.
The Forrest Gump star had to be suspended from cables in scenes in which Andre, real name Andre Rene Roussimoffs, had to carry her - because the larger-than-life star couldn't lift her.
She recalls, "I had cables (because) his back was so bad and he was on so much pain med that he couldn't talk... He couldn't function very well."
That said, Wright has fond memories of working with Andre the Giant.
"He was such a sweetheart... He'd ingest small horses and a side of mashed potatoes and he would sort of wash it down with a case of wine and about six bottles of cognac.
"Then it was, 'Ok, who is gonna vie for that position to carry him back to his room when he's drunk...' We all had to do it." »

Actress Molly Ringwald insists the 'Brat Pack' reunion at Sunday's Oscars was easy to organise - because the stars get together every few years.
The Breakfast Club star joined the likes of Matthew Broderick, Macauley Culkin and Ally Sheedy for an Academy Awards tribute to late filmmaker John Hughes, who turned them all into teenage household names - and she reveals the reunion was just old friends getting together again.
She tells WENN, "We had all seen each other about five years ago when we were all together for the MTV tribute to John. We run into each other every so often. We all have very different lives and careers but we usually get together at least every couple of years for one reason or another.
"I just hope next time it will be for a happier occasion."
But she admits it was wonderful to get the chance to honour Hughes at the Oscars: "It was very emotional. It was a wonderful tribute. I was very happy to be a part of it." »

Hopper's Wife Refuses To Move Out
9 March 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Dennis Hopper's estranged wife is refusing to move off his property while the actor battles terminal prostate cancer - because she's broke, according to a new report.
A judge ordered Victoria Duffy to leave the actor's Venice, California residence by 15 March after granting the Easy Rider star a restraining order against her last month.
But, in legal papers filed in court on Tuesday, Victoria claims she she should be allowed to stay - because she lives in a free-standing unit on Hopper's compound.
She also claims to have insufficient funding, stating, "I believe in contemplation of death (that Dennis Hopper) may be intending to remove me as a beneficiary of any kind."
The 73 year old filed for divorce in January, citing irreconcilable differences, and received a restraining order against Duffy after his doctor insisted her presence was "hampering his cancer care". »
