Blues Brothers Heading To The Small ScreenBlues Brothers Heading To The Small Screen
3 hours ago

Movie classic Blues Brothers is to be turned into a new TV show.

The widow of original star John Belushi has teamed up with Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts to write a script for a small screen adventure, which will star Kieron Lafferty and Wayne Catania as Jake and Elwood Blues.

Lafferty and Catania currently play the musical pair in the touring Blues Brother Review, taking on the roles played by Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in the original movie.

Judy Belushi Pisano tells Undercover.com.au, "I've written a script with one of the Saturday Night Live writers, Anne Beatts, and with Kieran and Wayne. ...We have scripted it over six to eight shows where they are on a mission down the Mississippi back to New Orleans".

Belushi Pisano is happy to see the characters played by new actors, 28 years after her husband died.

She adds, "What this has done has reminded me what great characters the Blues Brothers are. They are great American characters. People tend to think of them as John and Dan. They were the first actors to do it but they won't be the last. When you see Kieran and Wayne you will see how they embody those characters and make them work. There is a spirit of Blues Brothers. It is an umbrella for the Blues." »

Garner Used Collins To Serenade Crush

Jennifer Garner serenaded her teenage crush with an instrumental rendition of Phil Collins' song Groovy Kind Of Love - and was reprimanded for disturbing the peace.

The actress grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, and one Valentine's Day (14Feb) she decided to treat her dream boy to an impromptu rendition of Collins' 1988 hit.

But the boy's mother was not impressed - and Garner received a stern warning about her early morning playing.

She says, "I was 15 and I really liked this guy. I used to play the Saxophone - so I thought it would be a really good idea to go round to his house on Valentine’s Day at five in the morning with my sax and stand underneath his window and play Groovy Kind of Love. The Phil Collins hit.

"But then his Mum leaned out the window and told me to go away because I was disturbing the neighbours!” »

Piven's On-set Dilemma With Stripper

Jeremy Piven struggled to deliver his lines during a saucy scene with a stripper in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard - because the beauty ended up almost strangling him with her legs.

The Entourage actor starred in the 2009 comedy, and is seen canoodling with a stripper in one scene - but the shoot was more difficult than it appeared for Piven.

He explains, "She scissored my head with her legs and started jamming my neck. The problem is I had this massive monologue and she's wrenching my neck and cutting off all the oxygen to my brain.

"It's an interesting experiment because when you have a massive monologue you obviously have to stay on top of your lines, rattle it off and make it look improvisational.

"But when you have no oxygen, it's a bit of a problem. So it was a challenge and it was really fun and difficult at the same time." »

The Punk'd star is happily married to Demi Moore, but admits his love life hasn't always been easy.

He explains, “I was 12. I had an air rifle, and there was this girl I really liked and I thought it would be romantic to give this girl this Bb gun for Valentine’s Day. So I gave it to her and she shot me in the knee and I had to squeeze the pellet out and I still have the scar.” »

Woman Sentenced To Jail For Obstructing Pellicano Case
3 hours ago

A former phone company worker has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after she was convicted of lying to authorities during the wiretapping case against disgraced Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano.

Pellicano was found guilty of illegally recording the calls of stars including Sylvester Stallone in 2008 and was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

But the FBI's investigation was hindered by Joann Wiggan, who was found guilty on two counts of perjury and one charge of making a false statement after she lied to officers about information she handed to her former colleague, Pellicano's accomplice Ray Turner, as they tried to build their case.

During a Los Angeles court appearance on Monday, U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fisher said she "engaged for years in the calculated obstruction and perversion of the court process".

Wiggan, 56, was handed a 41-month sentence and two years of supervised release, in addition to a $7,500 (£4,687.50) fine.

Turner was also convicted of wiretapping and conspiracy in 2008. »

Cheadle Hopes Miles Davis Movie Will Be Resurrected
3 hours ago

Don Cheadle blames former U.S. president George W. Bush for ruining the economy and derailing his plans to play jazz great Miles Davis on the big screen.

Cheadle was cast in a biopic of Davis, but the movie was shelved when Hollywood got caught up in the global economic crises.

Nearly two years on, the actor hopes the project will finally get the green light, but he's still fearful it'll end up on the studios' scrapheap.

Cheadle tells WENN, "Touch wood, it's been a long time coming. Working on the script right now and hopefully it will find a home. It's tough getting movies made right now because President Bush broke the world and the money's done! Nobody has dough. Studios are corporations and it's a very corporate model now." »

Mueller Opts For Quieter Rehab Centre

Charlie Sheen's wife Brooke Mueller has transferred to a more low-key rehabilitation facility after a security breach prompted her to leave the Malibu, California centre she checked into earlier this month.

Mueller was admitted to The Canyon on 9 February to deal with personal issues after a similar stay at a North Carolina wellness clinic, where she spent a week recuperating after suffering from an infection and a bout of pneumonia.

But she has now left The Canyon in favour of a quieter location, after a staff member leaked a detailed patient admissions document to the press, reports TMZ.com.

A source tells People.com the real estate agent transferred facilities on Sunday.

The insider says, "Brooke has recently moved to a new rehab facility in the Los Angeles area. She wants privacy and to be away from cameras that were bothering her at the other place.

"She is doing well and can come and go and play with the kids in the park if she stays in Los Angeles. She wants to keep it together for her twins. Brooke and Charlie are getting along Ok, and he supports her stay in rehab."

Meanwhile, Sheen's representative Stan Rosenfield has played down a weekend meeting from social services, insisting the L.A.'s Department of Children and Family Services' visit to the actor's home on Sunday was "routine" and "procedural".

Officials with the Los Angeles County child services department have been keeping a close eye on Sheen and Mueller to ensure their twin boys Bob and Max, 11 months, are not at any risk following a bust-up between the couple on Christmas Day.

Sheen was arrested and now faces charges of felony menacing, third degree assault and misdemeanour criminal mischief after allegedly threatening Mueller with a knife during the fight.

He is due to be arraigned in court on 15 March. »

Depp Stunned By Hollywood Success

Johnny Depp is surprised by his huge success in Hollywood, insisting his long-running career "defies logic".

Depp rose to fame in 1990 with his leading role in Edward Scissorhands, his first film collaboration with director Tim Burton.

He has since established himself as one of Hollywood's biggest and most bankable stars, making the Pirates of the Caribbean series one of the most lucrative franchises - but the 46 year old is astonished he's made it this far.

He tells People.com, "The whole ride - my whole ride and experience on the ride - since day one has been pretty surreal in this business. It defies logic, why I'm still here. I'm still completely shocked that I still get jobs and still am around... I've been very lucky.

"I had no idea where anything was going, but you can't. It's almost impossible to predict anything like that. I had no idea. I had hoped... But I'm luckily still here." »

Douglas' Girlfriend Pleads Guilty To Drug Charge
6 hours ago

Cameron Douglas' girlfriend has pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine, six months after she was arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs to the troubled actor.

Kelly Sott, 31, was taken into police custody in August after she was caught attempting to hand over the drugs, hidden in an electric toothbrush, to Michael Douglas' 32-year-old son while he was under house arrest at his mother Diandra Douglas' New York apartment.

Security guards subsequently searched Sott's bag and found the toothbrush and 19 tiny bags "containing a brownish substance that appeared to be heroin".

Sott, who claims she was unaware of the drugs, was then taken back to the room she had shared with Douglas at Manhattan's Hotel Gansevoort, where police discovered a stash of heroin, crystal meth and marijuana.

On Monday, Sott pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge of possessing methamphetamine, which carries a maximum one year prison sentence, reports TMZ.com.

Douglas was busted in a drugs raid at the Hotel Gansevoort on 3 August and was charged with possessing methamphetamines with intent to distribute.

Reports suggest the It Runs In The Family star had been plotting to move approximately $18,000 (£12,000)-worth of crystal meth from California to New York to sell when an undercover informant alerted the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration of Douglas' involvement.

Douglas pleaded guilty to drug trafficking last month and faces a minimum 10-year prison sentence if convicted. »

Social Services Pay A Visit To Sheen Family Home
6 hours ago

Embattled actor Charlie Sheen received a call from social services at the weekend when they paid a visit to his Los Angeles home.

The Two and a Half Men star is currently looking after his twin sons Bob and Max, who turn one on 14 March, after his wife Brooke Mueller checked into a rehab facility in Malibu, California earlier this month.

The couple has been working on rebuilding its marriage following a Christmas Day bust-up in Aspen, Colorado which led to Sheen's arrest.

He was subsequently charged with felony menacing, third degree assault and misdemeanour criminal mischief after allegedly threatening Mueller with a knife during the fight.

Officials with the Los Angeles County child services department have been keeping a close eye on Sheen and Mueller to ensure their boys are not at any risk and the actor met with a representative on Sunday, reports E! News.

Details about the trip have yet to emerge, but a source says, "It was a short visit. It was over something that's been happening over the last two weeks."

Sheen is due to appear before a judge on 15 March, when he will be arraigned for the assault charges.

Meanwhile, new reports suggest Mueller has checked out of the Malibu rehab centre due to a privacy breach after a staff member leaked a detailed patient admissions document to the press.

According to TMZ.com, the facility has acknowledged the breach and is conducting an internal investigation. »

Pattinson & Stewart Applauded For Pale Skin

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been praised for maintaining their pale looks - experts predict they could help lower skin cancer rates among impressionable teenagers.

The British hunk shot to fame as vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, while his co-star and rumoured girlfriend Stewart is equally as pale-skinned in the movie franchise.

And the pair has been credited with giving youngsters the confidence to step out without a tan - which will ultimately help lower cancer rates.

Dr. Raj Mallipeddi says, "People have to want to resemble the individual giving the message. If that image comes in vogue then people will follow suit and ultimately that could be better for people's skin."

Eric Jimenz from Urban Decay Cosmetics adds, "Due to films such as Twilight, people see that pale skin can still be sophisticated, timeless and glamorous."

More than 80,000 cases of skin cancer are reported every year in the U.K. alone. »

Wayans' Fears Over Pryor Role

Marlon Wayans is convinced his entire career hangs on his upcoming portrayal of legendary funnyman Richard Pryor - comparing the challenge to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

The White Chicks star is set to play the late comic in new biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?

Wayans admits he is fearful of cinema-goers' reactions when the film is eventually released in 2011, because Pryor is remembered with such reverence among comedy fans.

And he's convinced the role will make or break his Hollywood career.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "This (movie) is like an invitation to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for me, and I've never been more excited in my life than when I got the role. I want to prove I can handle a role such as this one.

"He's huge, there is so much feeling for Richard Pryor. It's hard to be bigger than Richard Pryor. He changed comedy, and he did it in his own unique way. Richard Pryor meant so much to black people. Bill Cosby was like Martin Luther King but Pryor, he was like Malcolm X."

Pryor passed away in 2005 at the age of 65. »

Johansson's Brush With Death On Boleyn Set
9 hours ago

Scarlett Johansson has heaped praise on the bodyguard who saved her life while filming The Other Boleyn Girl, after a wild horse nearly crushed her to death.

Johansson put her riding skills to the test while shooting the historic 2008 film, but one dangerous scene almost turned deadly when the petite star fell from a stallion and it came crashing down on top of her.

She explains, "I was riding side saddle with this 400 pound costume on and I always carried around (travelled with) this Bulgarian body guard... It had been raining and we rode up this muddy embankment and suddenly the horse was being temperamental. He reared up and I felt majestic on top until his whole a** slid underneath him and he started to roll over on one side."

Johansson admits she feared the worst until the burly bodyguard came to her rescue.

She adds, "I thought for sure this was going to crush my legs and out of nowhere my Bulgarian bodyguard flew in and stop, dropped, and he rolled, and he carried me sailing through the air! I knew he would save my life one day, and he did." »

Smith: 'Fat People Are Hated'

Moviemaker Kevin Smith is convinced overweight people face discrimination in America - because there is a lot of "fat hate out there".

The Clerks director was left fuming earlier this month when he was booted off a Southwest airlines flight because of his size.

He went public with his story and slammed bosses at the U.S. firm for the unfriendly move, receiving two apologies from Southwest chiefs.

But Smith fears the negative reaction from airline staff is indicative of a much wider problem - insisting many overweight people face discrimination on a daily basis.

He tells WENN, "There's so much f**king contempt for fat people in this country which I had not realised because for 15 years I hadn't been called fat.

"There's a lot of fat hate out there still and fortunately based on my job I've been protected from it but now I may as well be 'Fatatar' and lead these people. There's more of us than skinny people and you're all gonna get f**king eaten one day!" »

Bathroom Scare Pushed Lohan Into Rehab

Lindsay Lohan checked herself into rehab for the first time in 2007 after she passed out while running a bath.

The Mean Girls star has been admitted to treatment clinics three times over the years, to deal with a variety of issues including personal problems, exhaustion, drug use and recovery from a driving under the influence (DUI) incident.

The actress first realised she needed help in early 2007 after she took sleeping medication Ambien and nodded off on the bathroom floor of her Los Angeles home - as her bath overflowed around her.

Lohan tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "The first time I checked myself in was because I had taken Ambien. It's a sleeping aid but it makes you hallucinate.

"I'd run a bath and fallen asleep on the floor and the bath had overflowed. When I woke up I was so scared, I called my therapist and said, 'Can I just go somewhere for a month? I'm around bad people and I need to take care of myself.'" »

Blanchett Campaigns For Aussie Art Fund

Cate Blanchett is urging the Australian government to set up a fund to raise cash for the country's performing arts industry.

The Oscar-winning actress, who is co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company, is calling on politicians to recognise the importance of creative arts companies and pour money into the industry.

Blanchett wants politicians to set up a multi-million dollar fund to help Australian businesses, as she's convinced improving the performing arts industry will be of major benefit to the country's economy.

Speaking at the opening of the Australian Performing Arts Market (Apam), which showcases local companies to the overseas market, she says, "(There is a) frustrating feeling of how much more performing arts could actually achieve. The riches that Apam throws up is surely another reason to investigate the notion of a creative Australia fund, and for that to be seriously reconsidered.

"I think with that long-term and relatively small investment by government, I think it could take the performing arts even further than they are already going.

"The process of development is lengthy and costly - it's a human medium, the performing arts. (But) it's a very fruitful and (financially) successful sector and I think the support would really benefit us. Not only economically, but spiritually." »

Lohan Blames Dad For Drugs Downfall

Lindsay Lohan has blamed her father for exacerbating her drug problems - because she hit "rock bottom" after he began talking to the press about her private life.

Michael Lohan first opened up about his famous daughter in 2007, and has subsequently become well known for airing his grievances about their relationship in public.

And the Mean Girls star - who entered rehab twice in 2007 - is adamant her dad's decision to talk about her in the media made her problems worse - and her drug-taking spiralled out of control.

She tells British newspaper The Sun, "When my father was going public, that's when I hit rock bottom. I abused substances too much and it wasn't the answer to my problems. People need to know that. I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances. Now I'm in a place where I don't need to use anything and I can feel emotions because I choose to. I learnt from my mistakes and now I'm healthy and happier.

"I never want to be close to losing everything I worked for and aspired to my whole life. I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like. It's not something I ever want to do again."

And Lohan wants to put her experiences to good use by helping other troubled youngsters.

She adds, "Mind-altering substances are so dangerous. If I can teach others, especially teens, by sharing my experiences, then that's what I will continue to do. I've made some dreadful mistakes but learned from them - that has probably saved my life." »

McGregor: 'I'm Too Boring For An Autobiography'

Ewan McGregor is keen to pen an autobiography - but is convinced his life story is "too boring" to open up about.

The Trainspotting star was inspired to write a book about his life while starring in The Ghost Writer, about a writer hired to create the memoirs of a former U.K. prime minister.

But when McGregor considered starting the tome, he realised he didn't have enough interesting anecdotes to compile an entire book.

He says, "I wouldn't really have anything to talk about. It would be boring! Maybe I can have some dirty little secrets made up or I can write something that's just a whole crock of s**t." »

Campbell To Fly To Haiti

Naomi Campbell is set to become the latest celebrity to visit Haiti and lend a hand to survivors of the January earthquake.

The supermodel has signed up for an aid-relief mission in April, after U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown's wife Sarah pulled out of a trip to the Caribbean nation for the White Ribbon Alliance charity.

Campbell has already raised funds for Haiti by organising star-studded fashion shows in New York and London - and she wants to see how the cash is being used to help Haitians.

She says, "I want to do a really low-key trip and fly on a regular flight without any aides and any fuss and get on the ground and do some work. I think it's amazing that we have raised so much money and, like Sarah, I think that it's really important that we see where the money is going. I'm passionate about going over to help all those children. My heart goes out to all of them."

John Travolta, Sean Penn and Angelina Jolie are among the stars who have already made trips to Haiti. »

Socialite Nicole Richie regrets piercing and inking herself as a teen - because she hates the scars and "lame" tattoos that decorate her body.

The 28 year old has several small tattoos on her neck, back, foot and stomach but is hesitant to have them removed because she hears the procedure is so painful.

And the retired party girl is even more distraught about the piercings she punched through her skin - because now she's left with lifelong scars she can do nothing about.

She says, "Piercings scar but you could get your tattoo removed. When I was 15 I got my belly button pierced and it was a big deal, and now I have this scar there that I feel worse about than my tattoos." »

Lohan Thankful No One Was Hurt In Drink-driving Collision
17 hours ago

Lindsay Lohan is relieved no one was hurt when she slammed her car into a tree in 2007 following a drinking session, branding her actions "stupid and childish".

The Mean Girls actress was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after crashing her vehicle in Los Angeles.

She subsequently spent 84 minutes in jail in relation to the incident and another DUI charge.

Lohan blames the paparazzi who were chasing her for causing the accident - but is just thankful she didn't hurt anyone during the collision.

She tells British newspaper The Sun, "I wasn't driving like a maniac. There were paparazzi and their flashes were going off into the window. I tried to turn, then I sped up because they sped up. That's when I hit the tree.

"I just thank God everyone was okay. But it was scary. I had three drinks, at most. I've been stupid and childish and I wasn't thinking." »

Richie's Tattoo Ban
21 February 2010 5:36 PM, PST

Nicole Richie doesn't want her two children with tattooed rocker Joel Madden to follow in his footsteps - she's banning their kids from getting inked until they're 18.

The socialite and former reality TV star has small tattoos of her own while the Good Charlotte rocker's arms are fully inked.

And Richie admits she would be "heartbroken" if little Harlow, two, and Sparrow, five months, decided to take after their dad and tattoo themselves all over when they grow up - so she's set a strict age limit for the pair.

She says, "To be honest, I would be heartbroken, but what can I say? I would say wait until you're 18, that's what I would say." »

Author Kirn Lands Oscar Seat
21 February 2010 5:36 PM, PST

The novelist whose story inspired Jason Reitman's Oscar-nominated movie Up In The Air has been offered a seat at the ceremony next to George Clooney, after launching a bitter tirade at Academy Award bosses for failing to invite him.

Walter Kirn logged on to Twitter.com last week, slamming Paramount bosses for snubbing him ahead of the 7 March event. The film is nominated for six awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

In a message Kirn posted on Wednesday, Kirn wrote, "Caution to writers: Don't expect that because you write a novel that becomes an Oscar-nominated film that you'll be invited to the Oscars. Novelists are like oil in H'wood (Hollywood): they drill us, pipeline us, pump us and then burn us."

But movie bosses have moved quickly to settle the issue, giving Kirn a prime seat next to the film's star, Clooney.

Kirn confirmed his invitation via Twitter.com on Friday, writing: "Thanks to Paramount Pictures for coming through with Oscar tickets and proving true to its word, which I shouldn't have doubted." »

Wall Street A Good Investment For Labeouf
21 February 2010 5:36 PM, PST

Shia Labeouf's role in Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is proving financially lucrative for the star months ahead of the film's debut - the actor has made almost $500,000 (GBP312,500) after learning how to invest his money.

Labeouf stars as a young Wall Street whizzkid opposite Michael Douglas' ruthless Gordon Gekko in the forthcoming sequel.

He prepared for his part by training at one of the world's largest discount brokers, Charles Schwab. And the 23 year old's extra study sessions have proven a good investment - he's almost half a million dollars richer than when he landed the role.

He explains, "Before I did anything, before I even met Oliver Stone, I went into the Schwab office... I get out to New York, I meet all these amazing people, and I said, alright, I'm gonna put some money into it. If (I'm) ever going to invest, and I've always wanted to, this was the time to do it. So I put $20,000 (GBP12,500) in. And that $20,000 turned into $489,000 (GBP305,625). I looked at it yesterday... I'm pretty good at it."

But Labeouf admits the big payoff also came with big risks.

He adds, "Really, it's who gets the information first... four of the nine guys I was training with got arrested and are in jail now for insider trading." »

Firth's Worries Over Kissing Hoult
21 February 2010 5:36 PM, PST

Colin Firth was wary of kissing Nicholas Hoult in A Single Man - because the actor is the same age as his son.

The 49 year old plays a college professor in Tom Ford's directional debut, and Hoult's character, a teenage student, develops an infatuation with his teacher.

But Firth worried about one scene where the pair had to kiss - because his son Will, 20, was born just months after Hoult.

He says, "I did have conversations with Tom about the nature of the relationship. I have a son the same age as Nick so I was very concerned.

"I would have been uneasy had he (Hoult) been uneasy but he seemed so calm about everything and displayed no self-consciousness whatsoever.

"But the nature of the scene wasn't predatory on my part. If anything the young man is the stalker." »
