Hairy Hopkins' Wolfman Ultimatum
Sir Anthony Hopkins almost resigned from The Wolfman after movie bosses ordered him to shave off his beard.
The actor decided to grow out his facial hair to play Sir John Talbot, the father of the title character played by Benicio del Toro, but Universal executives wanted him clean-shaven for the film.
The 72 year old then threatened to walk off set, prompting producers to give in to his demand.
He says, "They wanted me to shave it off because studio policy is not to have facial hair, which is crazy when you're doing a film in 19th-century England about a wolfman.
"I said, 'Well, the beard stays or I go.' It got to that point." »

Murphy Put Aside Career For Mum
Tragic actress Brittany Murphy was devastated when her career ground to a halt after she decided to sacrifice acting roles to look after her sick mother.
The Clueless star passed away on 20 December after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Hollywood Hills home.
Her widower Simon Monjack admits the actress was heartbroken about the ongoing lull in her career, after her character was written out of Sylvester Stallone's upcoming blockbuster The Expendables.
The film would have marked Murphy's return to the big screen after years off to nurse her cancer-stricken mum.
Monjack tells U.S. talk show host Larry King, "(The public outpouring of support after her death) was unbelievable. And I think Brittany would have been more surprised than anybody. You know, her career, by her own admission, in the last few years - five or six - had taken a downturn."
Murphy's mum adds, "There was (a downturn) for probably the last maybe five years. I got really sick. You know, I had cancer twice. And she had initially taken off to be with me in the hospital and slept there every day for the four weeks, five weeks I was there and was just with me always and, you know, controlling all the doctors and making sure all the right things were done.
"I just never dreamed that (she would die first). You know, I always thought it would be me, not her."
Monjack admits Murphy believed she was being ostracised from Hollywood, adding: "It's funny, Brittany and I spoke about this often. And she had her theories - a rumour - the theory was that she had upset the wrong people at the wrong time.
"(But) she was the kindest, sweetest person. I think it was more that she was too kind, too sweet, too - she was this bubble that existed in a plane beyond ours." »

Polanski Screens Movie At Home
Roman Polanski staged a special screening of his newest movie The Ghost Writer while under house arrest in Switzerland - and he's delighted with the film.
The embattled director will not be allowed to attend the political thriller's premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany on Friday so he held a showing at his chalet in Gstaad - and was impressed with the finished product.
Robert Harris, who wrote the screenplay, tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "I don't know if he is disappointed not to be able to attend the premiere. I imagine he has been to quite a few premieres in his time.
"He was very happy with it, which was wonderful, but of course I am hugely biased."
The Oscar-winning filmmaker pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, but fled the States before his sentence could be passed.
He was held by officials in Zurich last year and placed under house arrest in Switzerland. Last month, a Los Angeles judge ruled he must return to the U.S. to face sentencing.
The director refused to allow his legal woes to disrupt editing of The Ghost Writer - he completed post-production on the film while under house arrest. »

Taylor Lautner has landed another action role to add to his resume - the chiselled teen star is set to portray Stretch Armstrong in an upcoming blockbuster.

Monjack: 'Murphy Knew She Was Dying'
Brittany Murphy told her mother Sharon she loved her the morning of her passing - because the actress knew she was dying, according to her widower.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office ruled earlier this week the Clueless star's primary cause of death was pneumonia, with contributing factors of anaemia and "multiple drug intoxication".
Her husband Simon Monjack believed the 32 year old had contracted laryngitis, and he and Murphy's mum were nursing in their shared Hollywood Hills home, expecting her to make a full recovery.
But Monjack insists Murphy knew she was dying the morning she suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on 20 December - and reached out to her mum to bid farewell.
He tells U.S. talk show host Larry King, "Her last days were full of the Academy (Award) screeners (DVDs), being in a soft, pink, fluffy Beverly Hills robe, mama coming and bringing soup and laying in - and laying on the sofa next to the bed.
"What happened that day (she died) was Brittany had laryngitis. I have no idea what to do with laryngitis. I'm a rabbi, not a doctor, so I pray instead of prescribe. So I asked Sharon to come down. We'd been talking, anyway, half the night... We were planning to move to New York, have a baby... We were talking about baby names.
"I asked Sharon to come down and Sharon came down. Brittany, for the first time, was almost fighting for air. Her eyes were not right. They were darting off left, right and center.
"That morning she woke up (and) she couldn't breathe. She went out to get some air. Sharon followed her out. I'll say this, because I know you (Sharon) can't. She said, 'Mom, I'm dying. I love you.'"
Murphy's mum Sharon adds, "From when she collapsed, I was with her in the bathroom. And I was sitting across from her with her little puppy, Clara. And she said, 'Mommy, please hug me.' And I went to get up and she just collapsed like right there."
Sharon Murphy and Monjack's comments were made in an interview before the L.A. Coroner declared the star's cause of death. »

Slater's TV Drama Helps People Track Down Missing Relatives
5 February 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Actor Christian Slater's new TV show is helping Americans track down missing relatives.
The True Romance star plays people tracker Alex Donovan in The Forgotten and admits the show has had a big impact on viewers.
And he insists it's all down to a public service announcement which accompanies the show on U.S. TV - and encourages fans to do their own investigations about missing loved ones.
He says, "We actually have the opportunity to solve some real cases."
Slater read out one email he had received about a closed case during an appearance on late-night show Lopez Tonight! on Thursday.
He read, "In 1987, Paula Beverly Davis went missing from Kansas City, Missouri. In 2009, Davis' sister, Stephanie Clack, was watching an episode of The Forgotten and saw the Nameless PSA and website.
"She went to Nameless.gov and searched the unidentified persons site with information she had about her sister's case. After looking at a number of records, on December 11, 2009 Paula Davis was positively identified.

Williams Contemplates Kids With Common
5 February 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Tennis superstar Serena Williams is desperate to start a family with her rapper/actor boyfriend Common - but fears she is too forgetful to be a responsible mother.
The sporting ace began dating Common last year and confesses she's starting to feel broody.
But Williams is putting the idea on hold after accidentally leaving her pet pooch behind after a training session on the tennis courts.
She says, "I would love to have a baby... But I have two little dogs I take care of and they're so cute, but sometimes I forget them. One time I was in the locker room... I was busy and I left and I was in the car driving home and I was like, 'Oops!' I definitely don't need any kids because I forgot my dog."
And Williams admits her poor memory isn't the only thing preventing her from acting on her desire to become a mum.
She adds, "Every time I see a woman walking around pregnant, I'm like. 'Oh my god, I could never do that.' How are you walking? I look at them and my back starts hurting!
"That's as far as I've gotten with that (having kids) but eventually, maybe one day I'll get there. That would be awesome." »

Police Investigating Sheen Security Camera Footage
5 February 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Police chiefs are investigating security tape footage in an effort to identify the thief who made off with Charlie Sheen's Mercedes and crashed it on Friday morning.
The actor was alerted to the fact his car had been stolen from his garage by staff at in-vehicle security system company OnStar, who also contacted the police to report the fact the vehicle had crashed over a barrier on Los Angeles' Mulholland Drive and was at the bottom of a cliff.
When police arrived at the crash site, there was no one in the car.
Sources tell U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight that they have reviewed the security tapes to see who was driving the car when it left the gated community where Sheen lives.
Police reports suggest Sheen left the vehicle in his unlocked garage with the keys in the ignition.
The saga comes amid reports suggesting Sheen awaits impending arrest and felony menacing charges in relation to his Christmas Day fight with his wife Brooke Mueller, which landed him behind bars in Aspen, Colorado.
Sheen and Mueller are scheduled to appear in court on Monday - when lawyers for the estranged couple will request a judge relax the terms of a restraining order, which has kept the two apart since their fight. »
