Bruce Willis' fire-ravaged Idaho ski resort has re-opened following a year of renovation after it was destroyed by a blaze in 2009.
The Soldier Mountain Ski Resort lodge was burned to the ground last March.
But despite being forced to borrow some kitchen equipment and tables from Willis' former The Mint restaurant, construction workers rallied to open the venue's doors again and celebrated its relaunch on Thursday.
The lodge was completely rebuilt following the blaze, which was determined as accidental by investigating police. »
Anti-smoking Group Fuming With Momsen
Gossip Girl actress Taylor Momsen has come under fire from anti-smoking campaigners - after the 16 year old was snapped puffing on a cigarette while walking through New York.
The young star took time out during filming of the hit teen TV show this week (begs25Jan10) for a cigarette break, but the star's unhealthy habit has sent smoke signals to health advocates.
Patrick Reynolds, the director of the Foundation for a Smoke-Free America, insists Momsen's actions could encourage her impressionable fans to light up.
He tells UsMagazine.com, "She really has an extra responsibility to bear as an actress idolised by little girls out there. For her to be smoking sends the wrong message to kids. Evidence shows that stars do influence kids to smoke."
However, Momsen might not be too worried about the effect her smoking has on her devotees - the actress recently admitted she has no interest in being a role model for other people's children.
She said, "To be honest, I don't f**king care. I didn't get into this to be a role model. So I'm sorry if I'm influencing your kids in a way that you don't like, but I can't be responsible for their actions. I don't care." »
Hendricks' Husband Mad Over Blogger's Fat Jibe
14 hours ago
Christina Hendricks' husband has jumped to the Mad Men star's defence after her weight was criticised by a fashion blogger following her recent appearance at the Golden Globes - insisting the catty critic distorted the image.
Busty redhead Hendricks showed off her curves in a champagne-coloured ruffled gown on the red carpet of the awards ceremony earlier this month.
However, New York Times blogger Cathy Horyn didn't appreciate the lavish design, writing, "You don't put a big girl in a big dress. That's rule number one."
Hendricks' husband, actor Geoffrey Arend, was left fuming by the comments - and only calmed down after seeing messages of support for his wife posted by readers of the blog.
He tells People.com, “I was just upset about the whole Golden Globes dress thing. I thought she looked so gorgeous. And that New York Times blogger saying that… It’s so ridiculous.
“What was nice was seeing the entire internet come after that blogger. That was really cool. It was the first time I saw just a solid block of ‘You’re crazy! What’s wrong with you? You should be ashamed of yourself!’ And honestly, the Grey Lady (New York Times' nickname) should be ashamed of themselves to print a picture like that, that they widened!”
Horyn later apologised after admitting a technical mistake had led to the snap being "slightly distorted inadvertently." »
Travolta's Alleged Extortionist Maintains Innocence
14 hours ago
The former Bahamas senator who stands accused of trying to extort $25 million (£17.2 million) from John Travolta following the death of the star's son has quoted Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr. in a statement maintaining her innocence.
Pleasant Bridgewater, along with Paramedic Tarino Lightbourne, is alleged to have conspired to have the Grease legend and his wife Kelly Preston hand over the huge sum of cash to stop them leaking details surrounding Jett Travolta's death last January to the media.
The pair went to trial in October, only for a mistrial to be declared after a bumbling jury member leaked the verdict to local politicians. A new trial has been slated for September.
Bridgewater has taken the chance to proclaim her innocence again - and is using sentences from Luther King, Jr.'s legendary speeches to back up her pleas.
In a statement to TMZ.com, she writes, "I do maintain my 100 per cent total and complete innocence and will defend myself. As one great writer said, 'No lie will live forever' and 'truth crushed to the Earth will rise again.'"
The statement comes just days after fellow accused Lightbourne stood on the steps of a Bahamas courthouse and appealed for the public to help pay his legal fees, insisting he's struggling to support his family and his home has gone into foreclosure. »
Douglas Supports Son In Closed Court Hearing
14 hours ago
Michael Douglas attended a court hearing in New York City on Friday to support his embattled son Cameron, who pleaded guilty to drug trafficking earlier this week (Wed27Jan10).
Cameron Douglas was arrested in August following a police raid on his room at the Big Apple's Hotel Gansevoort.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines and cocaine with intent to distribute, and originally put under house arrest at his mother's Manhattan address.
However, after the 31 year old allegedly asked his girlfriend to smuggle heroin to him in an electric toothbrush he was placed back behind bars in a correctional facility.
He entered a plea of guilty on Wednesday in Manhattan Federal court, and appeared back in a closed courtroom on Friday.
According to the New York Daily News, Oscar-winner Douglas also attended the hearing to sign paperwork so his son could be bailed until he is sentenced.
The publication states the hearing's transcripts were sealed, which usually points towards the suspect helping police with their investigation.
Cuthbert Lands TV Chat Show Pass
29 January 2010 5:31 PM, PST
24 star Elisha Cuthbert has been handed the first season pass to her favourite late-night TV show after revealing she's a big fan.
The Canadian actress shoots new show The Forgotten just yards away from where comedian George Lopez tapes his show - and on her first appearance on Thursday night she confessed she has often attempted to sneak past security to join the audience.
Cuthbert, who plays Kiefer Sutherland's daughter on 24, told Lopez she was particularly upset when she failed to get access to his show when her idol Mariah Carey and crush David Beckham were guests.
She told the host, "If I can get a free pass to come here and sit in the audience any time I want I will love your show forever."
Cuthbert then screamed when Lopez produced a season pass.
He revealed, "This is the only one in existence. We had it made. They told me you were a huge fan... You are welcome 24/7." »
Gibson: 'Mad Max Inspired Idol And Duran Duran'
29 January 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Mel Gibson credits his Mad Max movies with spawning Billy Idol and Duran Duran's road warrior 1980s look.
He insists the low-budget George Miller films inspired pop videos and films.
The actor/director tells the Los Angeles Times, "Look at all the films that came from it, that took from it. Waterworld was Road Warrior on water and there have been a dozen others.
"And look at the music in the 1980s, Billy Idol and Duran Duran, they all took this look... The Mohawks, the black leather and studs, all the bondage stuff."
Gibson still smiles when he recalls how basic the set was: "I lived in a miner's cottage while we were making it. It was made of cement. It had a bedroom and a kitchen and an outside bathroom. We were in the middle of Broken Hill and it's just bleak desert.
"George managed to make it look mythic. It was real low-tech. We made it for dozens and dozens of dollars." »
Alba Gets Serious About Spanish
29 January 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Jessica Alba is taking Spanish lessons, so she can sign up for Latin movies and feel more confident when talking about her Mexican heritage.
The actress admits she confused a lot of journalists when she first became a star - because she looked Latino but couldn't speak the language.
Her lack of Spanish led to criticism and suggestions she wasn't a true Latina - something that really upset the Fantastic Four star.
She tells Siempre Mujer magazine, "I didn't want to misrepresent Latinos and I didn't know how to defend myself. But I went to my room and I cried all night. Since then, I've preferred not to comment on the subject.
"I tried to explain to them that, in this country (America), I'm considered Latina and, thus, I consider myself Latina as well. I grew up eating enchiladas... I identify with Mexicans. It's in my blood whether or not I speak Spanish."
And now she's a mum, she has decided to sign up for Spanish lessons, so she and her daughter Honor can become fluent.
She adds, "I know the basics, but I just hired a professor that specialises in Hispanic studies to teach me and Honor. God knows that I wish I was raised bilingual. But it wasn't to be.
"I want to make movies in Spanish... There are so many interesting themes and stories that are worth sharing, like the lives of immigrants, for example.
"There's a whole world that hasn't been sufficiently explored and I want to be part of it - the violence on the Mexican borders, the political upheaval in Venezuela and Bolivia and the drug trafficking in Colombia." »
Lakshmi Hospitalised After Pregnancy Trouble
29 January 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Author Salman Rushdie's ex-wife Padma Lakshmi was recently hospitalised after experiencing complications with her pregnancy.
The Indian-born TV chef, 39, announced she was expecting her first child in October, branding the pregnancy a "medical miracle" after years of struggling with endometriosis, in which the lining of the uterus grows in other areas of the body.
Studies show that 20 per cent of women who suffer from endometriosis and are trying to conceive will not succeed.
Lakshmi was admitted to a New York hospital earlier this month and spent five days under doctors' care after a baby scare, according to the New York Post's gossip column PageSix.
Details of Lakshmi's medical problem are unknown, but a source tells the publication, "The baby was in serious danger."
The former model is now recovering at home with her close friend, talent agency boss Teddy Forstmann, as she nears her February due date.
The insider adds, "Teddy has been by her side the whole time. He has been incredibly wonderful and supportive."
Lakshmi has refused to name the father of her baby, but new reports suggest he's venture capitalist and Columbia Business School teacher Michael Dell.
Lakshmi's publicist had not responded to requests for a comment as WENN went to press. »
Actress O'Grady Granted Temporary Restraining Order
29 January 2010 5:31 PM, PST
Actress Gail O'Grady has obtained a temporary restraining order against an alleged stalker.
In legal papers filed in Los Angeles on Friday, the former NYPD Blue star claims Steven Church has been bombarding her with phone calls and text messages after she refused his alleged advances, which date back to September 2009.
O'Grady claims he also repeatedly showed up at a store she owns and was even spotted outside her five-year-old son's school, according to TMZ.com.
Church also left gifts for her son at her house.
The actress called in a private investigator to help her make a case for a restraining order and now Church has been told he must stay at least 100 yards away from O'Grady and her son at least until a hearing on 18 February, when the star hopes to make the order permanent. »
