Hasselhoff Under Involuntary Psychiatric Hold - Report
4 hours ago
David Hasselhoff is under an involuntary psychiatric hold at a Los Angeles
hospital after suffering a seizure on Friday, according to a U.S. report.
The Baywatch star's daughter, Hayley, called emergency services when her father
fell ill and he was reportedly taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
According to RadarOnline.com, he is being held under the California Welfare
and Institutions Code 5150, which allows authorities to take into custody those
they believe may be a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled
or suffer from a mental disorder.
He is expected to remain there under a 72-hour hold.
A spokesperson for the L.A. City Fire Department confirms: "Paramedics
were called to (a house) in Encino for medical aid. Paramedics arrived at approximately
11.51 am and later transported the patient a nearby hospital."
The 57 year old, who has a long history of alcoholism, had allegedly been
drinking in the last week and saw one of his personal doctors on Wednesday
after returning from a trip to Canada.
Just last October, Hasselhoff was admitted to rehab amid reports he accidentally
hit a doctor during a booze binge. He has also been hospitalised on two separate
occasions this year, reportedly suffering from alcohol poisoning. »
Golf star Tiger Woods has broken his silence about the car crash that landed
him in the hospital on Friday, downplaying rumours the accident was sparked
by a violent dispute with his wife.
The sportsman was admitted to hospital in Florida in the early hours of Friday
morning after he clipped a fire hydrant when pulling out of his driveway, and
smashed into a tree on a neighbour's lawn.
A 911 call released on Sunday reveals Woods was found in front of his neighbour's
home, unconscious and lying outside of his car.
Reports speculated Woods had been arguing with his wife, Elin Nordegren, shortly
before the crash.
The couple's relationship has recently been rocked by allegations of an affair
between the golfer and a woman named as Rachel Uchitel, who has denied claims
of a romance with Woods.
But the golf champion has now praised his wife for helping him in the incident,
writing on his website on Sunday, "This situation is my fault and it's
obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect.
I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again. This is a private matter
and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the
many false, unfounded and malicious rumours that are currently circulating
about my family and me are irresponsible.
"The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted
courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person
to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false. This incident has been
stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all
the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for
some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how
intrusive some people can be."
Woods has so far declined to give a statement to police, cancelling appointments
to talk to officers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. »
Unemployed Line Up To Reenact Job Loss Scenarios In Clooney Film
12 hours ago
The economic downturn came just at the right time for moviemaker Jason Reitman
- he was inundated with real-life people who wanted to tell their hard-luck
unemployment stories in George Clooney's new film Up In The Air.
Reitman put an ad in papers in Detroit, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri calling
for real people to reenact the moment they were fired from their last job -
and filmed them for a sequence in Clooney's movie.
The director tells WENN, "I approached the shooting of the film when
we were having one of the worst recessions on record. I had to adjust how to
do these firing scenes (in the film), so satire just didn't work anymore.
"We were shooting in St. Louis and Detroit, two cities that just got
pummelled and I put an ad out in the paper asking if there were people who
lost their jobs and if they wanted to be in a documentary about job loss.
"We said it was a documentary to weed out actors who were trying to sneak
into the film. We had a startling amount of responses. I ended up putting 60
people on camera, 22 of which made the film.
"We interviewed them about what it was like to lose their job in this
economy and then we'd fire them on camera and ask them to respond the way they
did when they lost their job, or, if they preferred, the way they wish they
had responded. It was an incredible experience to watch these non-actors improvise
with 100 per cent realism.
"I don't think I'll use trained actors in the future." »

Gyllenhaal Wins Movie Role For Teen Drug Smuggler
12 hours ago
One troubled teen impressed Jake Gyllenhaal so much as he was researching his
ex-convict character in new film Brothers, the actor won him a part in the
movie.
Gyllenhaal, who plays a grown up juvenile delinquent in the film, spent time
with convicted drug smugglers and murderers in an effort to determine what
life behind bars for a teenager is like - and he admits the experience has
changed his life forever.
He met with 18 year olds who are serving life sentences and others who have
since been freed and are trying to get their lives in order.
One such teen, Victor, made such an impact on Gyllenhaal and director Jim
Sheridan, they cast him in the film.
The actor explains, "This kid Victor was in jail and he was released
and had the opportunity to change his life and told us stories that were unreal
to me.
"He was hiding meth in the back of a lamp of a four wheel vehicle driving
over the border and he was 16. He changed his life and is working for the governor's
office in Sacramento now.
"Jim (Sheridan) ended up putting him in the movie in a scene where my
brother Tobey Maguire's helicopter goes down."
In the film, Maguire and Gyllenhaal play feuding siblings. »
Police investigating Tiger Woods' recent car crash are no closer to determining
the cause of the accident, after the golf star delayed giving an official
statement for a second time.
The sportsman was admitted to hospital in Florida in the early hours of Friday
morning after he clipped a fire hydrant when pulling out of his driveway, and
smashed into a tree on a neighbour's lawn.
Woods declined to give a statement to police on Friday and was due to talk
to officers on Saturday, but pulled out of the appointment, with his representative
insisting the star was unavailable.
Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman, Sgt. Kim Montes, says, "The Florida
Highway Patrol has received information that Tiger Woods and his wife were
not available to be interviewed by state troopers as we had previously scheduled.
This announcement came from his agent. It is unusual that we haven't gotten
a statement. This just delays us to getting closer to the completion of the
investigation. We still are going to move forward with our crash investigation."
The news comes amid reports the star was arguing with his wife, Elin Nordegren,
shortly before the crash. The couple's relationship has recently been rocked
by allegations of an affair between the golfer and a woman named as Rachel
Uchitel.
She has subsequently denied claims of a relationship with Woods, telling the
New York Post, "We have never had an affair, and the claims we did are
completely false. I am really upset about it because I am being portrayed as
a homewrecker, when it simply isn't true." »
