29 January 2009 2:00 PM, PST

Swayze Still Undergoing Cancer Treatment
29 January 2009 2:00 PM, PST
Patrick Swayze's publicists are slamming U.S. tabloid reports the actor has
abandoned treatment for pancreatic cancer, insisting there is "no truth" to
the allegations. The National Enquirer claimed the Dirty Dancing star, who
was diagnosed with the fatal disease last year, had quit all chemotherapy
and was preparing for his final days after allegedly being told his condition
was "inoperable".
But Swayze's representative Annett Wolf has blasted the rumours, saying: "The

Watts Speaks Out About Ledger Tragedy
29 January 2009 2:00 PM, PST
Actress Naomi Watts is still struggling to come to terms with ex-boyfriend
Heath Ledger's death a year ago. The King Kong star, who is now dating actor
Liev Schreiber, romanced Ledger for two years after the couple met on the
set of Aussie film Ned Kelly in 2002. They split amicably and remained friends.
Speaking for the first time about her ex's accidental drug overdose death,
Watts says, "His fragility touched you... It's still incredibly difficult."
And the actress recalls falling for Ledger the first time they worked together.
She tells Parade magazine, "I hadn’t really been that familiar with his
work and then, when I got to the set and did that first scene with him, I was
like, ‘Wow! This guy is alive.’
"It was just something deep in his eyes. You could look into them, and
they would tell a thousand stories in one glance. There was a wonderful mixture
of power and fragility at work in everything he did, which just pulls you in.
His strength didn’t scare you. It intrigued you."

Kutcher Crazed Over Building Alarm Call
29 January 2009 2:00 PM, PST
Ashton Kutcher and his next door neighbour have gone public with their war
of words over a Hollywood building project which is giving the actor a headache.
Kutcher claims screenwriter Bruce Goldsmith has been restructuring his home
for four months, and now building work has started at 7am every morning.
The Just Married star is woken up by the sound of pounding hammers - and he's
had enough.
On Thursday, angry Ashton took his complaints online via his Twitter.com account
- and followed those up by airing his grievances on Los Angeles DJ Ryan Seacrest's
breakfast show.
Kutcher raged, "He's built, like, a fort next to our house and I wake
up every morning to people pounding on steel at 7am... He's got a bulldozer
down there and I'm gonna hijack it in the middle of the night.
"I'm gonna start cutting down trees at four."
And Goldsmith has fired back after his neighbour called him a "jackass" and
threatened, "I'm gonna lose it on this guy" during his Twitter chat,
posted minutes after the actor was woken up by construction work.
The writer tells TMZ.com, "He (Kutcher) just doesn't want to deal with
reality... He's out of line... They don't make hammers covered with rubber."
Goldsmith insists he's doing nothing wrong - Los Angeles laws allow him to
start construction work at 7am.

Wood Blasts Press And Rourke Over Romance Reports
29 January 2009 2:00 PM, PST
Evan Rachel Wood has lashed out at her The Wrestler co-star Mickey Rourke for
fuelling reports the pair is dating. The young actress, who plays Rourke's
daughter in the film, admits she feels "disrespected" by press
reports she and the actor are an item - and she's partly blaming him for
the rumours.
The couple reportedly locked lips at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday,
fuelling romance rumours - and the actress is sick of all the speculation.
In a statement, she writes, "I’m upset because I feel disrespected by
the press and by Mr. Rourke. Just because I’m single doesn’t mean that you
can take advantage of me. It’s unfair that the performances (in the film) might
suffer because of all of these distractions."
And Wood, who recently split from shock rocker Marilyn Manson, insists she
isn't even attracted to her The Wrestler co-star: "He's too old for me.
Nothing ever happened and nothing ever will."

Nederlander Hopeful For Speedy Thriller Settlement
29 January 2009 11:05 AM, PST
Theatre impressario James Nederlander is "confident" a lawsuit involving
former collaborator Michael Jackson and Thriller video director John Landis
will be settled amicably. Landis filed suit against Jackson in Los Angeles
last week (ends23Jan09), claiming he's owed royalties cash for his work on
the iconic promo and related spin-offs.
In his suit, the moviemaker alleges he has a deal in place with the superstar,
which entitles him to 50 per cent of the net profits from the video and related
material.
Nederlander is also named in the legal papers - because Jackson has reportedly
sold the rights to the promo to executives at Nederlander Organization, who
plan to turn Thriller into a Broadway spectacular.
But the Broadway producer is hopeful of a swift conclusion to the case.
In a statement released on Thursday, he says, "I'm confident that these
past differences can be worked out."

Beckhams To Make Permanent Move To Italy?
29 January 2009 8:05 AM, PST
Pop star-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham could soon be bound for Italy
- if her soccer superstar husband David Beckham gets his way. The sportsman
recently transferred to Italian club AC Milan from Los Angeles Galaxy for
a three month stint, leaving his wife to jet between the U.S. and Europe.
But the couple and its three sons, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, could be preparing
for another upheaval - after David hinted at his frustration playing in the
Major League Soccer table.
He says, "The Americans are doing everything they can to improve the
level and reputation of their game. It's a young league, and I think it needs
another 10 years to become successful.
"I have to admit that, having played in Europe, sometimes it was frustrating
playing in certain games. But every now and then, moving from one state to
another, I also enjoyed myself."
And if the star decides to extend his contract with AC Milan, club coach Carlo
Ancelotti would be delighted: "He knows that he's appreciated and esteemed,
and if he stays we'll be happy."
However, Galaxy bosses won't be letting go of Beckham without a fight.
Tim Leiweke, CEO of the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns L.A. Galaxy,
tells the Los Angeles Times, "David is under contract to the Galaxy, and
I had a good, straightforward conversation with him before he left and he loves
it in L.A.
"He wants a better Galaxy team; we're going to have a better team and
David has no interest in going."
Beckham previously played in Spain for Real Madrid before moving across the
Atlantic to Los Angeles in 2007.

And she has to watch whatever she eats and drinks - because her body reacts

Beckinsale explains, "I'm so sensitive I can't even drink a cup of coffee.
I can't drink much wine. either. I'm a very cheap date.
"If I drank a whole glass of red wine I would have Chekhovian despair

this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me.”

Twilight Author Halts Work On Sequel
29 January 2009 8:05 AM, PST
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has abandoned writing the fifth installment
of the popular vampire series - because she is too upset an unfinished manuscript
of the book has leaked online. The writer was working on her novel Midnight
Sun when the half-written story made its way onto the Internet.
And Meyer is so disheartened by the move, she has put down her pen and paper
indefinitely.
Next to a posting of the leaked manuscript on her website, she writes, "I
feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, so
it is on hold indefinitely.
"I'd rather my fans not read this version... the writing is messy and
flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without
driving more people to look for the illegal posting?"
A representative for the writer confirms to the New York Daily News, "Nothing's
changed. Stephenie has no plans to move forward with 'Midnight Sun' at this
time."
Instead, Meyer has moved on to write another tale, unrelated to the Twilight
series.
The spokesperson adds, "Stephenie is working on something else at the
moment. But she hasn't announced it yet. It isn't 'Twilight'-related. When
she's ready to reveal it, she will. This has been an intense three years for
her, and currently she's just focusing on being a writer."
The first book in Meyer's vampire novels was turned into a big screen blockbuster
last year, with the Robert Pattinson-starring movie grossing $337 million (£235.6
million) to date worldwide.

Beckinsale Tried To Keep Daughter Away From Film Role
29 January 2009 8:05 AM, PST
Kate Beckinsale's daughter Lily almost missed out on a pivotal role in her
mum's new movie - because the actress didn't want the nine year old to go
through the harsh audition process. Director Kirk Jones asked the Underworld
star if Lily would be interested in playing her mum's character as a girl
in new movie Everybody's Fine - but Beckinsale insisted her daughter wasn't
ready for Hollywood.
She explains, "I said, 'No, because she'll be coming with me to the set
and if she doesn't get the part she'll have to turn up on the set every day
and see somebody else.'"
But Lily insisted on auditioning - and she landed the role. And Beckinsale
was really proud of how the youngster handled herself in scenes opposite acting
legend Robert De Niro.
She tells Hollywood Life magazine, "I would have been so intimidated,
but she said, 'Well, it wasn't somebody really famous, like George Clooney.'"

Downey Jr. Feared Tropic Thunder Backlash
29 January 2009 8:05 AM, PST

character.
But Downey Jr. admits he originally feared the comedy would cause controversy,
and initially turned down the part offered to him by director/co-star Ben Stiller,
before eventually changing his mind.
He tells British TV show This Morning, "My reaction was, like, find someone
else who needs to take some big ass risk and get crucified for it. But then
I thought there really is a way if people understand the concept of the movie
- to make it entertaining and not make it stupid or offensive. Did I nail it
or am I in trouble?"

29 January 2009 8:05 AM, PST
Kevin Connolly is still recovering from the "trauma" of filming a

much preparing for his big moment. The pair cope with dating dilemmas in new
film He's Just Not That Into You, and Connolly admits film bosses wanted to
rush the shot when they saw the actor was glistening with sweat after amping
himself up for the scene.
He says, "The first day we had a post sex scene, which looks good on
paper but is kind of traumatising. It was just a pose, if it would've been
the other thing (simulating sex) it would've been a disaster... You're sitting
there in your underwear with the crew, it's just weird.

ups and be this big hulking man (but) I just ended up sweating."

Anderson's Praise For Working Mothers
29 January 2009 4:10 AM, PST
The X-Files star Gillian Anderson has heaped praise on ordinary working mothers
- because she would struggle to raise her children without full time help.
The actress has a 14-year-old daughter, Piper, from a previous relationship,
and son, Oscar, two, with husband Mark Griffiths.
And she is thankful that her longrunning TV and film career means she can
afford a nanny for her two kids - as she doesn't know how she would juggle
work and motherhood on her own.
She says, "One of the things I am most amazed at in life is women who
raise their children without help. Some mothers are more built for it than
others - higher levels of patience hormone - but it's hard!
"How do you clean the house and make the dinner and do the shopping?"
And Anderson, who lives in London with her family, insists the British government
should reward hardworking mothers for their strength.
She adds, "Every last one of you should be given a medal and free health
insurance, and a government-subsidised housekeeper."

Cleese Splits With Tell-All Lover?
29 January 2009 4:10 AM, PST
John Cleese has reportedly called off his relationship with younger lover Barbie
Orr - just a week after she lifted the lid on their love life. The Fawlty

divorcing his third wife Alyce Faye Eichelberger.
He was reportedly left red-faced after the aspiring actress told the British

Now Cleese is said to have told friends the relationship is over, insisting
he has no plans to return her calls, according to Britain's Daily Mail.
The newspaper alleges Cleese was stunned after learning Orr was not 27 as

Barton And Gal Pal 'Just Friends'
29 January 2009 4:10 AM, PST
Mischa Barton is laughing off reports she's enjoying a lesbian fling with model
Irina Lazareanu after the pair was photographed kissing on Monday. Former
The O.C. star Barton set internet gossips into a frenzy after photographs
from her Paris birthday party surfaced - and showed the actress locking lips
with the Romanian-born beauty.
But Barton has now taken to her blog to explain that her relationship with
the catwalk stunner is strictly "platonic" - in a journal entry entitled "No
One Else Kisses Their Friends?"
She writes: "As I'm sure most of you have already seen, I was photographed
at my 23rd birthday party engaging in what most of the gossip blogs refer to
as a 'girl on girl kiss'. Well I just wanted to take this moment to clear the
air by saying that the kiss was purely platonic! We were joking around and
it was taken out of context.
"The anonymous female I was photographed with is actually my close friend
Irina. Irina works as a model in Paris and since meeting a few months ago we
have been spending a lot of time together. We share a lot of the same interests
and I really enjoy her company. I guess you can say she's become my Paris partner
in crime!"
And the star hints she is still loved up with The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard,
adding: "No, I haven't switched teams. In fact, I have someone else that
is keeping me occupied at the moment."

Friend's Death Blamed For Grimes' Skinny Size
29 January 2009 4:10 AM, PST

out to hush the rumours.
Allan Mintz tells U.S. magazine Star, "Shenae was my son Cory's best
friend; they might have even dated a little bit. When Cory died, it was incredibly
hard for Shenae. She was beyond heartbroken, and I know she had a really difficult

actress' on/off affair with singer John Mayer has been her most recent relationship
headline grabber, but she is adamant that the press are often too quick to
jump to conclusions about her lovelife.
Aniston laments to MTV News, "It's not fun. You could end the date and
shake hands with them and realise it doesn't work, and all of a sudden you're
a new couple.
"I think it's the same as high school or inter-office dating. It's the
same feeling. What we deal with is strange and surreal, but the emotions are
the same as anyone."
And though Aniston admits she's grown tired of the speculation surrounding
her marital status - the actress is certain she's unlocked the key to a blissful
partnership.
She adds, "I think I've found that relationships are only going to work
out when you're really yourself and you're not posturing in any way. You're
just honest with who you are... There's a difference between compromising something
and compromising yourself."

Arquette And Jane To Reconcile?
29 January 2009 4:10 AM, PST
Estranged Hollywood couple Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane could be set for
a reconciliation - after inviting friends to a party at their Los Angeles
home next week (beg2Feb09). Actress Arquette filed for divorce earlier this
month, citing "irreconcilable differences" as a reason for the
split.
But the couple, who wed in June 2006 and have a daughter called Harlow, have
sparked rumours of a reconciliation after sending out joint invitations to
friends to attend a party for musician pal Eric Lewis at their L.A. home.
According to E! Online the invite reads, "Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette
Invite You to Their Home to Witness the Spectacular Eric Lewis."
Arquette requested sole legal and physical custody of their five-year-old
daughter in documents filed at Los Angeles Superior Court on 05 Jan, with visitation
rights for Jane.

Rourke Won't Step Into Ring
29 January 2009 4:10 AM, PST
Mickey Rourke has dropped plans to step into the ring to tackle wrestler Chris
Jericho - days after the fighter took a swipe at him. The Wrestler star declared
he was ready to take on Wwe favourite Jericho at the upcoming WrestleMania
event in Texas while speaking to reporters on the red carpet at the Screen
Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.
His threats sparked a war of words on CNN show Larry King Live on Tuesday
- when the fighter told Rourke, "I don't have respect for you... Be careful
what you wish for, Mr. Rourke."
But now the star has bowed out of the event - to focus his concentration on
furthering his acting career.
A spokesperson for Rourke says, "Mickey was very honoured to be asked
as he has the greatest respect for Wwe however he will not be participating
in Wrestlemania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career."

Beckinsale: 'I Am The Passenger'
28 January 2009 11:35 PM, PST
Actress Kate Beckinsale refuses to learn how to drive because she loves sitting
in the backs of cars. The Underworld star doesn't own a driver's license
and refuses to get behind the wheel - because that would take the fun out
of car journeys.
She admits her actress mother would always strap her into the back seat of
the family car and drive her for miles whenever Kate was upset as a teen -
and she still finds it comforting to let someone else do the steering.
The actress tells Hollywood Life magazine, "I love to be driven... When
I was a teenager and and I was miserable or things were difficult, my mom and
I would pile into the car and she would drive me. I've always been really chilled
by that."
"(Now) I take cabs or friends drive."

Johannson Plays 'Agony Aunt' To Her Friends
28 January 2009 11:35 PM, PST
Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson is the first person her friends turn to
when they need relationship advice - because the star is always willing to
be honest about their problems. The 24-year-old, who married actor Ryan Reynolds
last year, is always on call for her pals and is happy to serve up her own
form of counselling when it comes to men.
She says, "My friends and I talk about relationships and I probably over-analyse
everything. But I usually come back to the same thing: 'If this person is making
you crazy or making you doubt yourself, then get rid of him.' I always sort
of come back to that.
"Whether or not my girlfriends stay with the guy at the time, they usually
end up parting ways in the end.
"It sounds like I'm breaking up people all over the place."
And Johansson has some words of advice for women who have just broken up with
their partners.
She adds, "For a while you feel beaten down - you had to put a lot into
it (the relationship) and didn't get something out of it.
"Then you realise, 'I did get something out of it. I learned something
about myself, and I feel like a survivor."

Fanning Halted Final Exams To Watch Obama Day
28 January 2009 11:35 PM, PST
Barack Obama's inauguration will always hold very special memories for actress
Dakota Fanning - it was exam day for her. The teenager feared she'd miss
the swearing in of the new President - because she was too busy sitting her
final exams, but it became a day of hard work and celebration for the actress
and her school pals.
She tells WENN, "Our school put the coverage on in the theatre for us,
so we could watch it all in there. I was so happy."
And the big day wasn't lost on Fanning - she realised what a special moment
it was while she was shooting and promoting period piece The Secret Life of
Bees last year.
She adds, "We were dealing with so many civil rights in that movie. One
of the key points of that movie is when Jennifer Hudson's character gets beat
up for wanting to register to vote, and now we have an African-American president.
"I'm so happy that I get to live in a world where that can happen. I
grew up where interracial relationships are normal to me. I see that all the
time in school and just walking down the street and I don't think twice about
it, so when I see someone like Barack Obama run, I don't see him as a black
man or a white man; I just see him as a man. We're all just human beings.
"Anyone that is willing to be the President of our country, who will
lead us and protect us is a very inspirational human being, especially him...
I just love to listen to him."

Writer Sues Over Hannah Montana Claims
28 January 2009 11:35 PM, PST
A screenwriter is suing the Disney bosses behind Miley Cyrus' hit show Hannah
Montana - insisting the teen series is based on a script he wrote in 1990.
Richard Fronduto filed a lawsuit at Los Angeles County Superior Court on
Wednesday stating that he penned the idea for a show called The Secret Life
of Sindi, which eventually became The Family Business.
Fronduto claims he pitched this script to Disney executives, who liked the
idea so much they asked him to turn it into a two-hour pilot episode.
The papers reveal that Fronduto found numerous similarities between his discarded
pilot episode and the Hannah Montana show - with both featuring a teenage girl
who leads a double life as an ordinary teen and successful pop star. Both programmes
also allegedly contained a 'single-dad' character who acts as the teen's manager.
Fronduto is asking for a "Created by" credit on all future publications
and broadcasts of Hannah Montana, as well as damages.
Bosses at the Walt Disney Company were previously sued by another screenwriter,
Buddy Sheffield, in 2007, who also claimed to have created the concept for
the hit show.

Radcliffe's Stunt Double Hospitalised
28 January 2009 11:35 PM, PST
Daniel Radcliffe's stunt double is in a serious condition in hospital after
a flying sequence on the new Harry Potter movie went horribly wrong. The
crew is currently filming pre-production scenes for upcoming picture, Harry
Potter and The Deathly Hallows, the seventh film in the boy wizard series,
at Leavesden Studios in Watford, England.
The unnamed 25-year-old stuntman, who doubles for Radcliffe, was rehearsing
an ariel sequence on Wednesday when he was sent plummeting to the ground following
an explosion which was part of the stunt.
The man was immediately attended by paramedics and rushed to the nearby Watford
General Hospital to be treated for a "significant back injury".
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "The stunt double
was badly hurt. The scene seems to have gone badly wrong. The guy was rigged
up to a harness and was flying through the air. It is thought he may have been
caught in the explosion and hit the ground very hard. He told crew members
who went to help him that he couldn't feel anything from the waist down. Everyone
is hoping he makes a good recovery. It has come as a terrible shock."
A statement from studio executives adds, "We can confirm a member of
the Harry Potter production was injured in an accident. We are awaiting further
news. Out of respect for the family we are unable to comment any further."

Patel Desperate For Film Role Opposite Smith
28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel has gone public with his admiration for
Will Smith in hope the blockbuster king will invite him to share screen time
with him. Patel admits he's a huge fan of the Independence Day star - and
once waited at a premiere for three hours just to get a photo with the actor.
And now he's using interviews surrounding his Slumdog success to urge Smith
to get in touch.
In a recent chat with U.S. news show Extra, the British star says, "Hello,
Mr. Smith… Please let me do a film with you. I stumbled upon your premiere
of Hancock in London and I waited three hours. I was dying to go to the toilet
and I’ve got a picture of you on my phone.
"It’d be great. Just a small role. Shake your hand or something... Thank
you.”
Patel also has big plans to work with Jim Carrey and Leonardo DiCaprio - someone
his co-star Freida Pinto would love to work with.
She adds, "I've fantasised about him. I had a crush on him. Ever since
Titanic... This is really embarrassing (but) I had a scrapbook with everything
Leonardo in it... He’s a really nice person. The crush is gone but the admiration
is still there."

28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Clint Eastwood's classic action film Magnum Force is set to be given an unlikely
musical makeover. The Dirty Harry sequel, released in 1973, featured Eastwood
as maverick cop Harry Callahan, and now cult singer/songwriter Robyn Hitchcock
is planning to produce an off-Broadway musical based on the film.
He says, "It's a film that seemed to be on all the time when I was on
tour. By the fifth time (I saw it), I became addicted to it. It's taken a very
strange hold on my life."

Aniston Turns Dog Rescuer
28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Animal lover Jennifer Aniston came to the rescue of a lost dog on Sunday when
she spotted the lonely pet near her California home. The former Friends star
- whose own Corgi-Terrier, Norman, was reportedly saved by a paparazzo from
a recent car collision - hopped out of her vehicle when she noticed the lone
husky running down a busy Beverly Hills road and managed to coax the pooch
to the curb.
A witness, who saw the collarless dog escape its nearby home, thanked the
actress and alerted its owners to the animal's whereabouts.

Watts Puts Off Marrying Schreiber
28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Actress Naomi Watts is in no rush to wed her actor boyfriend Liev Schreiber
- insisting the pair don't need a certificate to seal their union. The couple,
parents to two-month-old Samuel, and 18-month-old Alexander, prompted rumours
they had become engaged last March when Watts was photographed wearing a
diamond on her left ring finger.
But the actress has put the rumours to rest, telling U.S. magazine Ok! "Liev
gave me this beautiful ring. We're very much together. We just don't have that
certificate and that's okay with both of us. Maybe one day we'll just wake
up and go, 'Hey, let's do this.' And maybe not."
The couple began dating in 2005.

Oscars Miss Out On Making History
28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Oscars officials have missed out on making history this year by refusing to
rejig rules about co-directors landing nominations. Film critic and blogger
Jan Lisa Huttner insists Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire partner Loveleen
Tandan, who is credited as a co-director, could have become the first woman
of colour to land a Best Director nod - if Academy members had simply considered
her.
Oscar rules state that only one person can be nominated for the Best Director
prize, but Huttner, a founder of advocacy initiative Women in the Audience
Supporting Women Artists Now (Witaswan), is using Tandan's case to push for
a change in voting.
Huttner insists she's not attacking Boyle, who is nominated for the Best Director
prize at the Oscars on 22 February, but an outdated Academy stipulation, which
fails to reward those involved in the filming process.
She raised the issue before the Golden Globe Awards earlier this month, asking
readers of her blog, TheHotPinkPen.com, to write to the Hollywood Foreign Press
Association and suggest Tandan should be rewarded for her co-directing efforts
as a nominee and potential winner.
She wrote, "If Loveleen Tandan was Danny Boyle’s co-director then, why
isn’t she his co-nominee now? I sincerely believe this question deserves an
answer, but unless we all ask, we’ll never get one."
And now Huttner hopes her campaign prompts Oscar bosses to reconsider their
rules.
She explains, "In 80 years, only three women have ever been nominated
for a Best Director Oscar - Lina Wertmueller, Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola
- and only two men of colour - John Singleton and Ang Lee, who won for Brokeback
Mountain.
"If Loveleen Tandan is co-nominated for her work on Slumdog Millionaire,
then she will be the first woman of colour ever nominated for a Best Director
Oscar, and if she wins, she will be the first woman ever accorded this great
honour. In my review of Slumdog Millionaire, I call it 'the first great film
of the new flat world,' so isn't this the right Cinderella ending for this
wonderful film?"

28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
James Brady, the journalist who created the New York Post's Page Six gossip
column and Parade magazine's popular In Step With... interviews, has died.
Brady, 80, also wrote for Women’s Wear Daily, for which he was once a publisher,
and regularly contributed to New York magazine.
He passed away on Monday at his home in Manhattan.

for the host.

His final interview for the Sunday supplement - with the actor Kevin Bacon

Rourke Angers Real Wrestler
28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Mickey Rourke's upcoming wrestling smackdown is set to be a fiery affair because
the fighter he'll step in the ring with in Houston, Texas isn't happy with
the actor's TV threats. Wwe wrestling star Chris Jericho took offence when
Rourke announced his plans to take him on before the Screen Actor Guild Awards
on Sunday, and the match sparked a war of words on CNN show Larry King Live
on Tuesday - when the fighter and the movie star faced off.
On the red carpet at the SAGs, Rourke told countless reporters of his plans
to fight Jericho at the upcoming WrestleMania event in Texas, adding, "Chris
Jericho, you better get in shape because I'm coming after your ass."
But The Wrestler star's fighting talk has irked the real wrestler, who told
Rourke, "I don't have respect for you... Be careful what you wish for,
Mr. Rourke."
A grinning Rourke countered, "I'm gonna take the high road, brother,
and just wish you all the best."

Phoenix's Rap Plans Are For Real
28 January 2009 5:30 PM, PST
Joaquin Phoenix's publicist has fired back at reports the actor's rap career
is all part of a prank, insisting the Walk The Line star really has big music
plans. Pals close to the star told EW.com earlier this week (beg26Jan09)
that Phoenix's recent shambolic performance in a Las Vegas nightclub, which
was caught on film by brother-in-law Casey Affleck, was all part of an elaborate "art
project" hoax.
But his representative, Susan Patricola, insists the actor's rap plans are
genuine - and he really has retired from movies to focus on a music career.
She tells MTV News, "He intends on exploring his musical interests, despite
speculative, negative or positive reactions."
