Madonna And Ritchie Granted Divorce
21 November 2008 4:13 AM, PST
Madonna and Guy Ritchie's divorce has been finalised following a hearing in
London on Friday.
The British filmmaker and the Material Girl, who announced their separation
last month, were granted a decree nisi by a judge at the clinical Principal
Registry of the Family Division of the High Court in High Holborn, London.
The hearing only lasted a few minutes and neither Madonna nor Ritchie were
in attendance.
Although details of the settlement have not been made public, the couple will
reportedly share joint custody of their sons, Rocco, eight, and David, three,
who they adopted from Malawi in 2006.
The boys will split their time between Madonna in the U.S. and Ritchie in
the U.K.
Madonna's daughter Lourdes, 12, will live with her mother - because she is
the singer's daughter from a previous relationship with personal trainer Carlos
Leon.
Filmmaker Ritchie was said to have celebrated the news on Thursday by raising
a glass on the set of his new movie Sherlock Holmes, according to U.K. newspaper
the Daily Mirror.
He told the publication: "It (the divorce proceedings) dragged on much
too long and that had nothing to do with me. But it was never, ever about money."
Madonna and Ritchie wed at Skibo Castle in the Highlands of Scotland in 2000.
The marriage will be officially dissolved in six weeks time when they will
be granted a decree absolute.

Spears To Make Surprise Appearance At AMAs?
20 November 2008 11:00 PM, PST
Britney Spears is reportedly set to thrill fans with a surprise set at the
American Music Awards on Sunday.
The Toxic hitmaker is rumoured to be taking to the stage at the event at Los
Angeles' Nokia Theatre to mark her comeback to the music scene with forthcoming
album Circus.
And host Jimmy Kimmel is adamant the event's organisers are planning a spectacular
secret performance, but that they won't tell him what it is.
The funnyman tells E! Online, "They have these surprises that 75 people
on the crew know about, but they won't tell the host.
"Apparently, there is some big surprise. I sent... the producer an email
yesterday and he was like, I can't tell you."
If Spears did play a set at the ceremony, she's be in good company - childhood
rival Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis,Taylor Swift and Kanye
West are all slated to perform.
But Kimmel is hoping Spears won't make a surprise appearance at the show -
because he once upset the singer by locking a Kevin Federline impersonator
in a box and dumping him in the sea for a skit at the 2006 American Music Awards
- just weeks after the former couple's divorce plans were announced.
The ceremony will be broadcast live by ABC on Sunday.

Sutherland Denies 24 Helped Obama Win
21 November 2008 11:03 AM, PST
Actor Kiefer Sutherland has denied his hit show 24 helped Democrat Barack Obama
to his landslide victory at the recent U.S. election.
The Illinois senator will become the first black president of the U.S. when
he takes office in January after triumphing in the 4 November vote.
Dennis Haysbert, who played President David Palmer in five seasons of 24,
had previously claimed that his character contributed to Obama's success, by "opening
the public's minds" to a black president.
But Sutherland doesn't agree. He says, "You don't honestly believe that
our show helped get the first African-American into the White House do you?
All we simply did is look to the future.
"You have a huge African-American population and it was just a matter
of time before they were represented politically by a president.
"We have a female president in season seven. You have a 52 per cent population
of women and we can clearly see it is just a matter of time before we have
a female president."

Lohan: 'I'm A Fighter'
21 November 2008 11:03 AM, PST
Actress Lindsay Lohan is convinced she'll return to the big screen in a breakthrough
performance - insisting she's "up for the challenge" posed by critics
brushing her off as a party girl.
The Mean Girls actress has had a series of box office flops since the 2004
film.
She became infamous on the Los Angeles party scene and entered a rehabilitation
facility three times last year, but now insists one year later that she's ready
to refocus on her movie career.
She says, "I have goals and I'm working to achieve them. I'm not hanging
out with people who are out every night getting f**ked up... I think at this
point (the media) is like, 'Let her do what she's going to do. We've seen her
do enough.'"
And Lohan hopes loyal moviegoers will return to see her on the big screen.
She adds, "I know people wouldn't have gone to see my movies if I didn't
make them laugh or make them cry. I think it's a matter of finding the right
thing. I'm sure my first thing back might not be that, but eventually it will
come.
"That's what this business is like. It builds you up to take you down
and then sees how far you can come back. I don't really worry though. I'm a
fighter. I'm up for a challenge and I wont settle."

Hilton: 'I'm Taking A Break From Madden'
21 November 2008 11:03 AM, PST
Paris Hilton has confirmed she and boyfriend Benji Madden have split.
The socialite appeared on pal Ryan Seacrest's radio show in Los Angeles on
Friday morning and revealed she and the rocker were "taking a break" after
nine months.
Hilton said, "We're really good friends. We're very close... I love him,
he's such an amazing man. He's my best friend, he's been so great to me, so
loyal. He's an incredible person.
"I think right now we're both better off as friends. We're both working
so much; I've been travelling, he's been working non-stop in the studio."
And Hilton was keen to clear up reports she ended the romance: "There's
all these reports that I dumped Benji; that's not true. This was a decision
we made together."
Reports about the split started last weekend (15-16Nov08) when Hilton was
photographed partying with ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos in Miami, Florida
- but she insists the late-night meeting had nothing to do with the break-up.
She added, "That's ridiculous. Really, I was on a girls' weekend... just
sitting there (and) Stavros came up and said hello... (It was) a very quick
conversation.
"Someone must have got a quick camera phone picture of me just smiling
and saying hello to someone I haven't seen in a year.
"He's (Madden) not a jealous person and he knows I have no interest in
him (Niarchos) whatsoever."
And Hilton also dismissed reports Madden was too controlling: "He's just
very protective... He just wants the best for me, he just wants me to make
the right choices."
The socialite also admits she's leaving the door open for a reconciliation: "We'll
see what happens in the future; I'm still in love with him. He's a very special
person; there's no one like him... I still have feelings for Benji."
And she won't be looking for a new man over the holidays either, adding: "I
don't wanna date anyone; the thought of that just grosses me out."

He tells E! Online, "(ABC president) Steve McPherson called me, and said
'We gave it the best shot we could'.
"It's very likely that Pushing Daisies will end after episode 13, which
as you know, is a cliffhanger."
But Fuller, who also created the show, insists he isn't too upset about the
move, because he has a lot of plans for the series away from the limits of
TV.
He adds, "We are talking to DC Comics about doing comic books that will
wrap up our storylines, and I already have a pitch for a movie ready to go.
"I'm really not feeling very boo-hoo about it. I am so proud of the show.
We put together 22 really good episodes, and there is a lot to be proud of.
I'm sure I'll be working with a lot of these people again, and I would love
to do so."

20 November 2008 11:00 PM, PST
Britney Spears blames the paparazzi for her infamous meltdown - insisting their
constant pursuit for snaps led her into a downward spiral.
The star was hospitalised twice earlier this year and lost custody of her
sons Sean Preston, three, and two-year-old Jayden James after a series of public
meltdowns, including a headline-grabbing incident when she shaved off all her
hair.
The pop superstar has since got her life back on track, winning three gongs
at the MTV VMAs in September and enjoying huge success when her comeback single
Womanizer made the biggest chart jump to number one in Billboard Hot 100 history.
Speaking in her new tell-all MTV documentary, Britney: For The Record, Spears
analyses what led to her epic fall from grace, and decides the hordes of paparazzi
that constantly follow her played a huge part in her breakdown.
She explains, "I used to be a cool chick. But I feel like the paparazzi
has taken that away from me - like, the way I used to live my life. I used
to be a cool chick but I'm not anymore."
And the star admits she didn't do herself any favours - because she surrounded
herself with people who didn't have her best interests at heart.
She adds, "I had let people into my life that were just bad people. You're
so busy you don't see what's going on. You don't have time to stop and think.

Councilman Aims To Keep L.A. Paparazzi Away From Schools And Hospitals
20 November 2008 5:31 PM, PST
A new Los Angeles city law could restrict the paparazzi from snapping stars
and their kids on or near schools and hospitals.
Councilman Dennis Zine, who has been waging a war against the paparazzi for
the past two years, has introduced a proposal this week (beg17Nov08) aimed
at limiting snappers' rights.
The new legislation would restrict commercial photography and video recordings
within 20 feet of schools, hospitals and medical facilities.
Zine explains, "The goal is to have a safe area where people can conduct
themselves."
The councilman proposed a "personal safety zone" around celebrities
earlier this year, but that idea fell flat when police officials told city
officials the law would be unenforceable.
And members of a task force Zine helped create to discuss Los Angeles' paparazzi
problems have recently determined the snappers do not pose a big enough issue
to safety and security to warrant new laws.

Aniston Begs Fans: 'Don't Sell Your Amateur Snaps Of Me'

out and about - as long as they don't try to sell them.
Aniston is one of the paparazzi's most wanted stars, as the world clamours
for the latest shots and gossip about her relationship with John Mayer.
The former Friends star accepts it's inevitable in the technological age that
star-struck members of the public will want to snap her when she's in public.
But she hates the idea that she's posing for a potential magazine cover every
time she steps outside her front door.
She says, "People sometimes pretend that they're on the phone, and they
kind of dial and take the picture at the same time.
"You hope they're doing it for themselves, that they're not thinking,
'I'm going to dine out on you'."

Penn: 'Gays Died Because Milk Was Killed'
20 November 2008 5:31 PM, PST
Fewer gays would have lost their lives to AIDS if San Francisco city supervisor
Harvey Milk hadn't been assassinated in his prime, according to Sean Penn.
Penn, who plays Milk - America's first elected gay public official - in Gus
Van Sant's new biopic, is convinced former U.S. leader Ronald Reagan wouldn't
have been able to turn his back on the beginnings of the AIDS epidemic if Milk
had lived.
Penn says, "I think less people would've died of AIDS. I think Ronald
Reagan would've been forced to address AIDS. It was a tragic loss.
"Milk wouldn't have stood quietly. He was a leader and he happened to
be focused on the gay movement. Because the popular notion was that AIDS was
a gay disease, certainly huge numbers of homosexuals died; I think he would've
advanced that argument.
"I think people are dead because he died too soon."
Milk was assassinated in 1978.

happen. Laying blame is so easy.
"When you make wrong choices, you have to take responsibility for them:
'What part of this do I own?' I struggle to figure out what made me make those
choices. All I can hope for is that I've learned something from it and won't
make the same choices again.
"Family is all we have in life, but I don't know how I feel about marriage.
Obviously, I'm not far enough out of being married to think about doing it
again."
