Ritchie To Relinquish Claim To Madonna's Fortune?
20 November 2008 8:02 AM, PST
Guy Ritchie is reportedly set to relinquish any rights to Madonna's fortune
as part of their divorce deal - in a bid to win access to the couple's children.
The couple announced their separation last month and are currently in the
middle of legal proceedings to make the break-up official.
The pop superstar is rumoured to be planning to leave England and return to
her native U.S. with their children - eight-year-old son Rocco, adopted tot
David Banda, three, and Madonna's 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from a previous
relationship.
But Ritchie is said to be keen to see his young family remain in Britain.
Now the estranged pair is said to have reached a compromise in the ongoing
custody battle - meaning Ritchie will walk away from the eight-year marriage
without a financial settlement, according to London newspaper The Evening Standard.
A source tells the publication, "It will all be over by the end of the
month. I am sure it will be announced by then. The priority for him has always
been the children. Ritchie has not wanted any of her money. Ritchie could have
taken her to the cleaners. It takes a very honourable man to have walked away. " |

Affleck Calls For An End To Congo Suffering
20 November 2008 8:02 AM, PST
Hollywood actor Ben Affleck has been visiting refugee camps in the Democratic
Republic of Congo - in a bid to draw more attention to the war-torn country.
The Pearl Harbor star met with aid officials and toured refugee bases on a
trip to the Central African country, where some 250,000 people have been displaced
by fighting.
Innocent civilians have had to put up with years of violence, mainly in eastern
Congo, that escalated further this year when fighting heated up between the
army and loyalists of rebel leader Laurent Nkunda.
And Affleck, who has made a documentary about the country's problems, is urging
the world to take notice and help stop the suffering of innocent civilians.
He says, "I'm not an expert in international affairs or diplomacy, but
it doesn't take that to see the tremendous suffering here. It's not something
that we as human beings can, in good conscience, ignore.
"I'm really glad that more people are paying more attention to (Congo)
now but I'm really saddened that it's taken this uptick (increase) in violence
to make that happen."
And Affleck hopes speaking out about the problems in the area will attract
others to turn their attentions to the Congo, just like pal George Clooney
has done for the troubled region of Darfur in Sudan.
He adds, "My hope in being here is primarily to bring attention to the
fact that there's a real lack of (aid agencies) here, a real lack of money
going to these folks."

Jackson To Appear At London Trial
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
Michael Jackson will travel to London to testify in a lawsuit brought against
him by an Arab sheikh after medics gave him the all-clear to attend.
The Thriller hitmaker is being sued by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Khalifa,
the second son of the king of Bahrain, for allegedly reneging on a deal to
record a new album and write an autobiography.
Jackson's lawyer Robert Englehart had initially argued in London's High Court
on Tuesday that the singer was suffering from an illness and should be allowed
to provide evidence via a video link.
But Englehart revealed on Thursday that Jackson will now fly over from the
U.S. after being given the all-clear by doctors.
He is expected in court on Monday.
Englehart says, "He has been cleared by his medical advisers to travel
in two days' time."

20 November 2008 10:52 AM, PST
Actor Alec Baldwin looks up to Oscar winner Tom Hanks - because "he's
got it all".
Both stars have managed to carve out successful careers in Hollywood, but
the 30 Rock actor insists he can't help but envy Hanks' talent and continued
popularity.
He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "There's only one person I
know who is enormously successful and he still has all this talent, he still
has a sense of humour and he still has his wife."
And it isn't just Hanks' on-screen portrayals that he admires - Baldwin, who
divorced spouse Kim Basinger in 2002, is also in awe of the actor's family
life.
He adds, "He's got it all. He's got his wife. He's got his kids. He's
got every movie he wants to make. Hanks is someone who I admire boundlessly.
And he's still funny and he's happy."

Del Toro's Revolutionary Film Gets Ok In Cuba
20 November 2008 10:52 AM, PST
Cuban officials have given actor Benicio Del Toro's revolutionary new film
Che the green light to show in the country after satisfying the government
with its depiction of former president Fidel Castro.
The forthcoming film, which depicts the rise and fall of Argentine revolutionary
Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, came under fire from New Latin American Film Festival
president Alfredo Guevara in July for its controversial storyline.
Guevara said that film would not be shown in the country if it included any "attacks" on
Castro - but the four-hour film is now set to be shown at the event.
However, Del Toro, director Steven Soderbergh and the film's American stars
will still have to get government permission to attend the screenings, scheduled
for next month.

her alleged stalker, ordering him to stay away from her family for the next
three years.
The Alias star was granted a temporary restraining order against Steven Burky
on 7 November after she submitted an alarming declaration to the Los Angeles

Under the permanent order, obtained on Thursday morning, Burky must also stay
100 yards (300 feet/91 metres) from the actress, husband Ben Affleck, their

behaviour has escalated to the point of becoming dangerous and threatening".
Burky first initiated contact with Garner in 2002, when he disguised himself
as a college student in Ohio and then as a punk rocker at a record store in
Los Angeles in order to meet her, according to the New York Daily News.
He even sent an email to a member of Garner's film crew in February, begging
that the star be warned about a vision he had in which she would be persecuted
by a mob.
Burky is reportedly under involuntary psychiatric hold following the Los Angeles
Police Department's involvement in the case.

Griffiths Is Homesick On Broadway
20 November 2008 8:02 AM, PST
Actor Richard Griffiths is homesick for Britain, just two months into his
run in the Broadway production of Equus.
The star, famous for his role as Uncle Monty in cult movie Withnail + I, is
finding the glamour of New York City no substitute for his native London.
And he has completely lost touch with all the gossip and news back home.
He complains, "I've been here since August. I've no idea what's going
on. Has the money gone to pieces? I miss home hugely. I can't wait to go back.
I miss nice things. Tea... scones."
The only consolation for Griffiths is that the Big Apple's current cold spell
makes it feel almost like England.
He adds: "At least the weather's the same."

Wahlberg Laments Lack Of Female Role Models
20 November 2008 8:02 AM, PST

doesn't want his daughter to grow up emulating her neighbours Paris Hilton
and Britney Spears.
The Departed star insists his main priority is providing positive and educational
surroundings for his young children - daughter Ella Rae, five, and sons Michael,
two, and newborn Brendan Joseph.
And he admits that celebrity-obsessed Hollywood may not be the best place
for kids to grow up.
He says, "We won't stay there forever but it's very difficult to raise
normal kids in an environment like that. And I was thinking there's no real
role models for girls.
"You've got Britney Spears, you've got Paris Hilton; they're nice enough
people but I don't want my daughter to aspire to be like that.
"I'm much more concerned with being a good dad and being there for them
and teaching them and hopefully helping them avoid some of the mistakes that
I've made."

Lohan's Dad Pulls Out Of Boxing Match
20 November 2008 8:02 AM, PST
Lindsay Lohan's father Michael has been forced to delay his forthcoming charity
boxing match until next year, after parole officers pulled him out of the fight.
The bout against computer boss Bob Venero - who pledged $30,000 (GBP20,000)
at auction to climb into the ring with Lohan - was scheduled for Monday in
Long Island, New York.
But Lohan has been forced to postpone until March, when his parole ends following
a two-year jail sentence.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation
of a motor vehicle after the 2004 arrest, following an attack on his ex-wife
Dina's brother.
A spokesperson for the New York State Division of Parole says, "Mr. Lohan
was convicted of assault, which is a violent crime, and is currently under
parole supervision until February of 2009.
"We do not feel that participating in a violent activity, such as celebrity
boxing, whether it is for charity or not, is appropriate for his rehabilitation.
It is inappropriate for a person on parole to engage in the same type of behaviour
that landed him in prison in the first place."
Lohan tells the New York Daily News he is "very disappointed" but
understands the decision.
He adds, "I've been on parole for almost two years now, and being that
everything has gone so well, I didn't want to cross the line in any way with
them."
And Lohan already has another contender in mind - music producer Mark Ronson,
the brother of Lindsay's girlfriend Samantha.
He adds, "After the comments and threats that Mark Ronson made recently,
maybe he wants to fight me for charity. I'm definitely willing to step in the
ring for three rounds with Mark Ronson."

was alleged to be cheating on her.
Recent tabloid reports suggested the actor was entangled in a $900 million
(GBP598.24 million) divorce battle with wife Robyn Moore amid allegations of
infidelity.
Gibson, 52, sparked rumours of an affair after he was snapped with a 28-year-old
Russian singer named Oksana in September. The gossip was further fuelled when
they were seen again together on the set of his new movie Edge of Darkness.
A source told the National Enquirer, "It may turn out that Mel's friendship
with the woman is innocent, but Robyn warned him that if he embarrassed her
one more time, their marriage is dead and buried."
But a spokesperson for Gibson tells the New York Daily News the rumours of

Gibson and Moore share seven children, aged nine to 28.

was concerned.
She tells Life + Style magazine, "I was like, 'Are you joking? I can't

Radcliffe Makes Griffiths Feel Like A Grumpy Old Man
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
Starring alongside Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway has left veteran actor Richard
Griffiths with a severe case of youth envy.
The portly 61-year-old complains that turning out onstage each night with
the 19-year-old Harry Potter heartthrob makes him feel old and unattractive.
And trying to keep up with what interests a teenager leaves him feeling hopelessly
out of touch.
He says, "I've no time for youth. It's a source of envy and despair.
Daniel comes raving to me about the latest band he's been listening to and
I have no idea what he's talking about. It just makes me feel so old. In fact,
I shall have him beaten soundly before I go home. I mean he's young, handsome,
successful...everything unbearable."
And, when he returns to Britain, Griffiths plans to lobby Prime Minister Gordon
Brown for better rights for grumpy old men.
He jokes, "I think everyone over fifty, as part of the NHS, should be
issued every week with a wet fish in a plastic bag by the Post Office so that
whenever you see anyone young and happy you can hit them as hard as you can
across the face. They'll say 'What was that for' and you'll say 'For being
so young and handsome and successful."

Aniston 'Laughs Her Rear End Off' At Friends Re-Runs
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
Jennifer Aniston admits she watches herself in re-runs of her hit sitcom Friends
- insisting she still finds the show that shot her to fame hilarious.
The actress is a huge fan of the long-running series, which she starred in
from 1994 until it ended in 2004, and catches Friends episodes whenever she
can.
And despite finding it difficult to remember all of the 236 episodes that
appear on TV, the show still makes her laugh - so much so, she argues with
anyone who isn't a fan of the series.
She tells New York Times magazine, "There are times I don't even remember
that particular show. This is horrible to say, but there are times when I laugh
my rear end off.
"And I get in debates with people who are over and say, 'Friends is not
my thing'. Excuse you!"
But despite Friends' huge success and popularity, Aniston isn't sure it would
work as well in today's TV market.
She adds, "That was a different time. Now TV has too much to do with
celebrity. We have reality television, where people try to become celebrities."

Franco Takes On Second Gay Role
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
James Franco didn't hesitate to accept the part of homosexual poet Allen Ginsberg
in a forthcoming biopic - his second gay role in as many years.
The actor's sexuality has become a matter of intense speculation since he
agreed to play the longtime partner of gay public official Harvey Milk opposite
Sean Penn in new movie Milk.
But the star insists he was so honoured to be asked to play Ginsberg in forthcoming
film Howl, he didn't care that it could fuel the gossip.
Asked about taking on back-to-back gay roles, Franco tells the New York Daily
News: "(It) don't make any difference to me. Ginsberg has been one of
my heroes and this movie is just so important.
"I'm playing him when he was in his late twenties, just after he went
to Columbia (University)."
Howl will tell the story of the 1957 obscenity trial over one of Ginsberg's
most famous poems.

Hanks' Wife Battles The Beatles Seller
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
Tom Hanks' wife Rita Wilson is in the middle of a legal battle over the non-payment
of a The Beatles poster.
The actress agreed to pay $75,000 (GBP50,000) for a vintage picture of the
Fab Four for her husband - provided the seller, Melissa Pearl could provide
proof of authenticity, according to papers filed at Los Angeles County Superior
Court.
When Pearl was unable to do so, Wilson backed out of the deal, reports celebrity
website TMZ.com.
Pearl is now demanding payment for the print - as well as an additional $300,000
(GBP200,000) "for what Peal absurdly characterised as her time and trouble
to obtain the evidence requested by Wilson that the poster was authentic."
Wilson is looking for a judge to legally declare she can walk away from the

Radcliffe's Broadway Run Struggling To Sell
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
Daniel Radcliffe's naked turn in Broadway play Equus is failing to pull in
theatregoers, according to U.S. reports.
The Harry Potter actor opened his run in Peter Schaffer's play at Manhattan's
Broadhurst Theatre in September to rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
The 19-year-old received praise from New York's notoriously tough theatrical
press for his portrayal of Alan Strang, a 17-year-old schoolboy who is obsessed
with horses.
But despite the praise for Radcliffe's take on the role, Equus is struggling
to sell tickets, with reports suggesting just half of the theatre's seats are
filled for each performance.
The lack of interest is a huge turn-around from the play's run in London's
West End, which grossed $3.5 million (GBP2 million) in advanced ticket sales
alone before enjoying a sold-out season in 2007.

Garner 'Stalker' Has Mental Disorder, Says Aunt
20 November 2008 4:07 AM, PST
Jennifer Garner's alleged stalker has a mental disorder which doctors have
tried to regulate with prescribed medication, according to his aunt.
The Alias star was granted a temporary restraining order against Steven Burky
on 7 November after she submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court an alarming
declaration detailing Burky's behaviour.
In the document, the actress alleged that "Mr Burky has been stalking
and harassing me," sending "packages and letters containing delusional
and paranoid thoughts and following me around the country... his obsessive
and harassing behaviour has escalated to the point of becoming dangerous and
threatening."
Burky first initiated contact with Garner in 2002, when he disguised himself
as a college student in Ohio and then as a punk rocker at a record store in
Los Angeles in order to meet her, according to a report in the New York Daily
News.
He even sent an email to a member of Garner's film crew in February, begging
that the star be warned about a vision he had in which she would be persecuted
by a mob.
But according to his aunt Maxine Burky, the 36-year-old's obsession is the
result of a psychological condition.
She tells the New York Daily News, "He does have a mental disorder. He's
supposed to be taking medication. It's been an infatuation for many years.
He's not dangerous."
Maxine insists that the Burky family sympathises with Garner: "Something
had to be done. I understand a stalker can ruin someone's life."
In the temporary restraining order, a judge ruled that Burky must stay 100
yards (300 feet/91 metres) from Garner, her husband Ben Affleck and their daughter
Violet.
A hearing has been scheduled for Thursday to make the order permanent, but
Burky will not be in court as he is reportedly in a psychiatric ward.

Beckham Fans Bid For Childhood Home
19 November 2008 11:08 PM, PST
Rich fans of soccer superstar David Beckham have been flooding a British businessman
with offers to buy the sports superstar's childhood home.
The soccer ace grew up in a tiny terrace house in Leytonstone, east London
before he reached superstar status and could afford to splash out on a single

The three bedroom house is worth about $380,000 (GBP250,000) - but its connection
to the star has seen its value soar to a whopping $1.29 million (GBP850,000).

A decision on who gets the property will be decided next week (begs24Nov08).
Beckham lived at the property for two years after his birth in 1975, before

19 November 2008 11:08 PM, PST
Angelina Jolie's estranged father Jon Voight is hoping to meet his grandchildren
over the festive period - after revealing he still hasn't met his daughter's
twins since they were born in July.
The Deliverance star and his Oscar-winning daughter were estranged for years
following Voight's decision to go public with his concerns for the actress'
mental health.
And although the pair allegedly reconciled recently after six years of not
speaking, Voight confesses he still hasn't been able to see the latest additions
to Jolie's family with actor Brad Pitt: Knox and Vivienne.
When asked by America's Ok! Magazine if he plans to see the twins at Christmas, "The
twins! Holy smokes... I'm hoping, so we'll see."
But despite their strained relationship, Voight is proud of his daughter's
maternal achievements - because she is happier than ever with her bustling
brood of six kids.
He adds, "I saw her here before the twins came, and she was so happy.
I've never seen her that happy. And she's got this beautiful film with Clint
(Eastwood) out, so there's going to be a lot of energy around that one as well."

Pitt Refuses To Show Off His 'Personal And Special' Tattoos
19 November 2008 11:08 PM, PST
Brad Pitt was left squirming during a recent taping of Oprah Winfrey's talk
show when a fan insisted on chatting to him about his tattoos.
The movie hunk was on the show promoting his new film The Curious Case of
Benjamin Button with co-star Cate Blanchett when a devotee from Ontario, California,
called Christina phoned to ask him to explain his skin art.
She asked, "I'm very interested in knowing the meaning of especially
the iceman and the new one that you have of the Daniel Pearl quote."
And fun-loving Blanchett quipped, "And will you show them to us?" as
nervous Pitt blushed and tried to avoid the question.
He refused to show off his tattoos, but offered, "If you have a partner...
it's a great thing to do together, and it becomes personal and special in its
own right and I'd rather just leave it at that."
But Oprah wasn't about to let the topic lie, asking the fan, "What are
you talking about?" - to which the knowledgeable caller started describing
her hero's skin art.
Christina said, "I just wanna know what was the idea behind it... I know
you've got one on your tummy, don't make me go there!"
Gracious Pitt chuckled and said, "Thank you for the question, I'm sorry
I can't help you out anymore than that."

Paltrow Begs Forgiveness Over Real Fur Faux Pas
19 November 2008 11:08 PM, PST
Gwyneth Paltrow is trying to get back in animal rights activists' good books
- by apologising to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' vice
president for endorsing a collection of luxury fur goods.
The actress came under fire from PETA and animal rights campaigners after
she appeared in Italian designer Tod's advertising campaign draped in fox fur
and wearing fur-lined boots.
A spokesperson said at the time that they had wrote to the star many times
about the treatment of animals used for fur, but their contact had been rebuffed.
But the 35-year-old, who has previously won praise for her and husband Chris
Martin's green credentials, made amends for her fashion faux pas by telling
PETA vice president Dan Mathews she didn't realised the fur was real.
Mathews tells Usweekly.com the star approached him at the Fontainebleau Hotel
opening party in Miami, Florida at the weekend (15/16Nov08) to give her side
of the story.
He reveals, "(Paltrow said), That was awkward, and I'm glad you asked,
because I do not wear fur at all.
"It was a daylong photo shoot on a boat near Capri, and there were all
sorts of poses with all kinds of clothes - none with fur. During one set-up,
a stylist came up from behind and draped a stole around my shoulder.
"I didn't pay much attention to it, and when I noticed it was fur, I
assumed it was fake fur, but did not ask, so it's my fault. I know it's not
a great excuse, but I hope you and your members understand."

Hilton's Friends Confirm Split
19 November 2008 5:20 PM, PST
Friends close to Paris Hilton have confirmed she and boyfriend Benji Madden
have split after a nine-month romance.
The couple split at the beginning of the week after Hilton was snapped partying
with ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos in Miami, Florida.
A source close to Hilton tells People.com, "She is saddened by the break-up
but they're just too different and they wanted different things in life. He
was loyal and sweet but it was time to take a break."
But the Hilton contact denies reports the socialite dumped Madden to reconcile
with Niarchos: "In no way are they romantic, nor do they want to get back
together."
And Vanessa Fontana, a contestant on Hilton's new U.S. reality show Bff, has
also confirmed the sad news.
She tells Life + Style magazine, "Sadly, it's true. Paris and Benji have
split. I love Paris, and I just want her to be happy. I think that they'll
be better as friends.
"Nobody else is involved. Paris and Benji were loyal and faithful to
each other. I was with Paris in Miami, and Stavros came over to our table,
and the two of them talked for literally two minutes. It was a friendly conversation.
They definitely did not hook up."
