Penelope CruzCruz Locked Herself Away Before Singing Debut At Abbey Road
14 hours ago

Spanish movie star Penelope Cruz was so paranoid about protecting her voice before her musical debut in Nine she became a recluse.

The actress felt the pressure of recording her vocals at London's famed Abbey Road Studios and decided to lock herself away in her hotel room and speak to no one as she prepared to hit the high notes.

She tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "I thought it would be more responsible and professional if I didn't talk to anybody before I had to record. So I was laying on my bed like Dracula, looking at the ceiling and waiting to go to the studio.

"I got so tense from trying to protect myself too much... The second day I was much more relaxed." »

Williams Eyes Action Role

Tennis ace Serena Williams is eyeing a move into acting when her sporting career ends.

The Wimbledon winner made a brief cameo in medical drama E.R. in 2005 but her character died in the show - and now she's looking for a more action-packed role.

Williams says, "I really enjoy acting. I like being in front of the camera. I think I should be an action star. I always wanted to die in acting and then I died (in E.R.) and I was miserable! I was like, 'I don't wanna die anymore', so my dying in acting career is over!

"Now I'm moving on to more action roles. I can do a real mean chop and a kick and I can jump high and run fast and cartwheel." »

Boyle To Headline Dance Show After Osbourne's 'Ugly' Barbs
14 hours ago

British talent show sensation Susan Boyle is to perform on U.S. TV hit Dancing With The Stars next week (beg09Nov09) - just days after contestant Kelly Osbourne's mum Sharon called her "a hairy a**hole".

Osbourne was far from complimentary about the Britain's Got Talent runner-up when she took to the airwaves for raucous U.S. radio programme The Opie & Anthony Show earlier this week (beg02Nov09).

She told the hosts, "There’s this great picture of Susan Boyle, smiling, looking like a slapped a** next to Ozzy."

And Osbourne added, "I like everybody to do well, even someone that looks like a slapped a**. It’s, like, God bless her. You go girl. She does look like a hairy a**hole... You just want to say, 'God Bless and here’s a Gillette razor.'

"He (God) hit her with the f**king ugly stick."

Her mocking comments wound up on website, and now Boyle will come face to face with Osbourne's daughter on Dancing With The Stars.

The Scottish singer will perform I Dreamed A Dream, the Les Miserables song that turned her into an overnight Internet sensation, after she wowed talent show judges led by Simon Cowell with her moving rendition. »

Anderson: 'I Was An Easy Target'

Pamela Anderson fears the construction bosses working on her Malibu, California home took advantage of her when they went way over budget on renovations.

The actress/model admits she gave the builders too much trust while she was working in Las Vegas with illusionist Hans Klok in 2008, and when she got back she was stunned with the costs that had mounted up.

Her financial checks led to reports the former Baywatch babe was cash-strapped, but she insists she was simply getting her affairs in order.

She says, "I realised after millions and millions of dollars being over budget I wasn't paying attention when I was in Vegas doing that magic show.

"When I came back and added it all up, I realised that it was way beyond budget so I actually went back to the very first nail hammered into the house, so I've been going through it.

"I was just signing cheques every week and going back and forth to Vegas and I realise, at the end of it, I was probably an easy target." »

Twilight Stars Hit The Road

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart thrilled hundreds of fans in Los Angeles on Friday night as they kicked off their Mall Tour to promote The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

The pair, along with co-star Taylor Lautner, took to the stage in the Hollywood and Highland Center and sent waiting fans into a frenzy.

Pattinson told the crowd, "First of all, thanks to you guys. Without you, Twilight wouldn't be anywhere, so thanks very much."

And Lautner stunned fans further by announcing: "We have a special treat. The whole entire cast is about ready to come on stage and they're going to answer your questions so thank you, it should be exciting."

The trio was then joined onstage by the rest of the cast, including Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Ashley Greene.

The waiting audience had earlier been entertained by performances by Death Cab For Cutie, Sea Wolf, Anya Marina and Band of Skulls, who all have tracks on the upcoming vampire movie's soundtrack.

The Twilight Mall Tour is continuing across the U.S. over the next two weeks, before wrapping up in New York on 19 November. »

Douglas 'Touched' By Film Honour From Schwarzenegger
14 hours ago

Kirk Douglas was stunned to be presented with a top movie award by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday night - because he coached the muscleman on his first ever film.

The veteran actor was handed the Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment at the 2009 BAFTA/La Britannia Awards in Los Angeles.

Douglas was touched to receive the honour from Schwarzenegger, as he has fond memories of working with the star on 1979 movie The Villain.

In a post on his personal MySpace page, Douglas writes, "Sometimes I think that if you live long enough you get all the awards. But last night was something special. I received the BAFTA/La award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment. What was special about it was that Governor Schwarzenegger drove down from Sacramento to present it to me. That was very thoughtful.

"I worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first movie, The Villain. At that time, neither of us could imagine that he would become such an important movie star and then governor of California. He was a great guy back then, and he has never changed." »

Thompson 'Withdraws Polanski Support'

British actress Emma Thompson has agreed to withdraw her name from a petition to free Roman Polanski after a fan called on her to stop supporting the incarcerated filmmaker.

The Oscar-winning actress signed a petition to free Polanski, who has been imprisoned since September on the request of Los Angeles law officials.

But on a trip to Exeter University in the U.K. earlier this month, Thompson was accosted by a student who requested she retract her support.

And after a lengthy chat with Caitlin Hayward-Tapp, who has set up a petition for those opposed to Polanski's freedom, Thompson agreed.

The 19 year old says, "I asked if I could speak to her (in person). She is such an inspirational woman, I reckoned she must have been willing to reconsider.

"It turned out she was very willing to hear what I had to say. She said she knows Roman Polanski and that she had had calls from friends asking her to sign the petition. She knows what a terrible early life he (Polanski) had.

"She said she had already been thinking a lot about the petition, as others had expressed their dismay at her signing it. We talked for 15 minutes and by the end she said she would get her name removed. She said regardless of the fact she knows him and the terrible things he has been through, a crime is a crime. If she doesn't do this, it'd be a great shame."

Polanski is facing extradition to the U.S. to face sentencing over a 1977 charge of unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to the charges but fled the country in 1978 before he could be handed his punishment.

Despite calls from his victim to drop the case, Polanski has been refused bail on two separate occasions over worries he is a "flight risk". »

Hoult Was Last Minute Ford Pick When 'Well-known Actor' Let Him Down
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

About A Boy star Nicholas Hoult only landed the lead in Tom Ford's new movie A Single Man by chance - the designer-turned-director's first choice failed to show up for filming.

Ford is refusing to name the "well-known actor" who originally landed the part of Kenny in the acclaimed new movie, but admits Hoult wasn't even part of the cast in the weeks leading up to the first day of filming.

And the first-time director feels sure fate played a part in the end result.

He says, "The actor didn’t show up the first day he was due. He was attached for six months and we had made his costumes.

"It was so lucky and I cannot imagine anyone but Nicholas Hoult in that role. I had seen Nicholas’ tape a few weeks earlier and I was kind of kicking myself. I had a sick feeling inside that this guy was perfect for it and that I was working with another actor. But it just came together."

But replacing one of his leads at the last minute was the least of Ford's troubles - he also had to fund the film himself when finance fell through at the start of the world economic crisis.

Stumping up the $7 million (GBP4.3 million) he needed to make the movie, Ford had to shoot the film in just 21 days to avoid running over budget.

But Colin Firth, who stars in the film, credits the director for never losing his cool and always appearing to be in complete control, despite the huge financial pressure on him.

The Brit says, "He was always immaculately dressed, he was always calm. He made sure that any anxieties were not communicated to anyone else."

The Oscar-tipped movie also features Julianne Moore, Ginnifer Goodwin and Matthew Goode. »

Busy Mitchell Puts Halloween On Hold
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Halloween is on hold for Lost star Elizabeth Mitchell's four-year-old son - because mommy was working on a movie as the trick or treaters came calling.

The actress, who played kindly Mrs Claus in family film The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, was too busy to organise a Halloween party last weekend, so she has decided to trick her son into thinking the spookiest night of the year hasn't happened yet.

She explains, "Every single time kids in costumes would come up (to the door) my husband would be like, 'Look over there'. We're gonna stage a Halloween. I talked to my neighbours (and) we're gonna give them all candy and they're just gonna give it all back to us.

"We're dressing as a Scooby (Doo) mystery." »

Harden Thrilled To Launch New Cruise Ship
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden is about to fulfil a high seas dream - by christening a new cruise ship.

The actress will launch the Carnival Cruise Dream Ship on the Hudson River in New York next week and she can't wait for the champagne ceremony.

The excited star tells WENN, "It's a big deal because this is my city, where I grew up, and I get to bash champagne bottles against the ship.

"My dad was a naval captain and got to travel all over the world. He was stationed in Europe for a long stretch and he decided we would come back to America on a cruise. We came back and stopped in Hawaii and it was awesome.

"At that time those cruise ships were like dinosaurs compared to what cruise ships are like today with water slides and spas... It's a great way for families to be together and to bond together. I have been on a cruise with my family and it's beautiful being under the stars on the ocean."

And Harden is particularly pleased to be the "godmother" of the new Carnival Cruise ship - because it's going to be a floating charity boost for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

She adds, "They're going to raise $3 million for these kids and they also have innovative ideas for families on the ship to take part in games together to raise money. It's great across the board because it raises awareness, it raises money and also families will be having a good time." »

Kristen Stewart Graduates On The Set Of Twilight Sequel
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Kristen Stewart has graduated high school after passing her last exams on the set of the new Twilight movie. After quitting school to pursue acting as a teen, the star has taken classes with tutors on movie sets. The 19 year old finally qualified between scenes on the Vancouver, Canada set of Eclipse, at exactly the same time as her character Bella - so the fictional graduation ceremony she shot for the film doubled up as her real one.

In a chat with Dennis Hopper for the latest issue of Interview magazine, Stewart reveals, "I know it's a little late, and I'm a little old, but I just finished high school - with honours.

"The other day I was doing a graduation scene on Eclipse and I had just finished high school myself the week before, so I told the crew, 'Hey, just so you know, I'm actually graduating right now, and I'm not going to have another ceremony.'

"So I took a mock picture with an extra. I literally asked the actor to come back and shake my hand and hand me the diploma while I was dressed in a cap and gown." »

Zemeckis Wants Starr And McCartney For Yellow Submarine Remake
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Moviemaker Robert Zemeckis wants surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to play themselves in his planned remake of the Fab Four's animated classic Yellow Submarine.

Zemeckis and Disney bosses have brokered a deal that would allow them to rework the 1968 film and create a performance-capture 3-D digital production.

And Zemeckis - the man behind The Polar Express and Jim Carrey's new animated version of A Christmas Carol - wants to get the Beatles involved.

He tells MTV, "We haven’t gotten the word yet on the two surviving Beatles, whether they’re interested in doing it or not." »

Wright Ashamed By Awards Night Speech
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Actress Robin Wright is still red-faced about her recent appearance at the Women in Hollywood Awards - because she was "shy" and "inert".

The Forrest Gump star was among the ladies honoured at the Elle magazine gala and audience members were shocked with her lacklustre acceptance speech - some put it down to her ongoing divorce battle with husband Sean Penn.

But Wright, who has already dropped Penn from her name, insists she's just not a very good public speaker.

She tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "I drove home and drank myself into a stupor out of shame.

"Big groups just ain't my bag... Everybody had a great story about why they're in the business, and their stories were all different and wonderful. I was like, 'Ok, I'm 43 f**king years old, and I'm not stepping up and being the best I can be.' I was shy and basically inert." »

Hilton And Lohan Stolen Goods Recovered In Las Vegas Home Raid
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Police officials have unearthed stolen goods belonging to Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan in a raid on the Las Vegas home of a member of Hollywood's so-called Bling Ring burglars, who targeted the estates of young celebrities.

The haul includes personal photographs of Hilton, two pairs of her designer jeans and a white hat, according to law enforcement sources and a copy of a search warrant obtained by the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

Los Angeles Police Department officers, accompanied by Las Vegas Metro Police officials, also seized two stolen computers, marijuana, a Korean passport and more than $20,000 (GBP12,500) in cash.

The authorities arrested teenager Rachel Lee during the 22 October raid, but Lee has not been charged with any of the burglaries.

Six other people have been charged in connection with the burglary spree that netted more than $3 million in designer clothing, accessories and jewellery between December 2008 and October 2009. »

Madonna Wanted Precious
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Madonna was almost Mariah Carey's boss on acclaimed new movie Precious - the pop superstar was among the first people to show an interest in adapting author Sapphire's gritty drama into a film.

The writer decided the Material Girl wasn't a good fit and declined her offer to produce the film, about an obese, illiterate teenager.

Sapphire also turned down other interested parties until moviemaker Lee Daniels convinced her he was the right man for the job.

Sapphire tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "There was this really earnest college student with his backpack on who wanted to do his first film, and then Madonna wanted to produce it. I was like, 'Madonna? I don't think this is her film.'"

And the author recalls one potential producer who had his cast all mapped out: "This one producer told me he had found Precious - and it was going to be (singer/actress) Brandy. Excuse me? I literally almost hung up on him."

And then Daniels came along with a cast of friends and the idea of casting Jane Fonda as Precious' social worker. He eventually settled on Helen Mirren and then turned to Carey when the Brit had to quit the project at the last minute. »

Brown Attacks Rihanna Over Candid TV Interview
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Chris Brown has fired back at his ex-girlfriend Rihanna's decision to go public with the details of their February fight, insisting what happened should remain between them.

The R&B star pleaded guilty to beating his then-lover on the eve of the Grammy Awards and recently started a lengthy community service sentence. He was also ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from his ex for the next five years.

Both stars appeared on rival TV interviews in America on Friday and Brown began his with a statement about the candid interview Rihanna gave to news show 20/20, which was previewed after he taped his MTV chat.

In Rihanna's indepth conversation with newswoman Diane Sawyer, the Umbrella hitmaker confirmed reports her fight with Brown began after he received a text message from a mystery woman, and she claimed her ex lost his cool and his temper as she quizzed him about the correspondence.

At one point she told Sawyer there was "no soul in his eyes," as he rained blows down on her in his rented sportscar.

She told the interviewer, "All I could think about at the time was, 'When is it going to stop? When is it going to stop?' He had no soul in his eyes, just blank. He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him.

"I was bleeding, I was swollen in my face. There was no way of me getting home. My next option was for me to get out (of) the car and walk, so I started walking in a gown and a bloody face. I really didn't know what was my plan(sic). That whole night was not part of my plan."

But Brown feels Rihanna went too far in discussing the details of the fight.

In a statement addition to his MTV interview, which was taped on Monday, he said, "While I respect Rihanna's right to discuss the specific events of February 8th, I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us."

He then tempered his remarks, adding, "I do appreciate her (Rihanna) support and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did and I accept accountability for my actions.

"At this point I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well. Abuse of any kind is always wrong." »

Timberlake Ordered To Court Over Obsessive Fan Case
6 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST

Justin Timberlake has been ordered to court on Monday so he can permanently keep a woman accused of stalking him at a distance legally.

A judge in Los Angeles wants the pop star to personally testify against Karen McNeil, the woman he has accused of harassing him if he is to make a temporary restraining order permanent.

Timberlake's aides have claimed McNeil has showed up at his property uninvited several times - but the singer has yet to submit a sworn declaration about his alleged obsessed fan, who insists she's a long time friend of the star.

Unhappy with the judge's decision to call Timberlake to court, the singer's attorney filed legal papers on Friday to disqualify the judge, according to »
