Boyle Flies To India In Slumdog Rescue Mission
27 May 2009 1:00 AM, PDT
Danny Boyle has jetted to India to help find a home for the displaced child
stars of his Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.
The director met with several of the film's stars at the private lounge of
Mumbai's Jw Marriott hotel on Tuesday as part of his ongoing efforts to provide
financial aid for the young actors.
Boyle established the Jai Ho Trust last year to ensure nine-year-old Rubina
Ali and her co-star Azhar Ismail, 10, would receive financial backing to ensure
their educations after plucking them from impoverished obscurity to star in
his film.
But the children don't appear to be receiving any monetary aid - Ali was left
facing life on the streets after authorities demolished her shantytown shack
earlier this month, days after her co-star Azhar Ismail suffered the same ordeal.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Their lives do not appear
to be any better." |

Seymour Seeks Restraining Order Against Attacker
27 May 2009 12:00 PM, PDT
Simon Cowell's ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour is seeking a restraining order
against the woman who assaulted her outside the American Idol finale last week.
Janice Thibodeaux claimed the attack was motivated by footage of Cowell pretending
to throttle fellow Idol judge Paula Abdul on the show.
She has since been charged with misdemeanour assault, and now TV presenter
Seymour is asking a court to keep them apart.
In legal documents filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday and obtained by TMZ.com,
Seymour's lawyers say of the assault: "(Thibodeaux) attacked (Seymour)
from behind, putting her into a headlock, wrenching her neck and choking her
with the full force of her 200 pound frame."
The papers go on to claim Thibodeaux "has sought publicity for her wrongful
act and stated to the media that they were intentional and that she does not
regret that".
Seymour also fears the woman "will again assault and further harass".

Boyle Buys New Home For Slumdog's Child Star
27 May 2009 12:00 PM, PDT
Slumdog Millionaire filmmaker Danny Boyle has bought a new apartment for child
star Azhar Ismail after he was left homeless following the demolition of
his shanty home in Mumbai, India.
The director and the movie's producers plucked Ismail, 10, and his co-star
Rubina Ali, nine, from impoverished obscurity to appear in the Oscar-winning
film and established the Jai Ho Trust last year to help fund their education.
But the kids' plight has captured headlines in recent weeks after both children's
families were booted out of their homes and forced to live on the streets of
India by local authorities.
Boyle and producer Christian Colson flew into Mumbai this week (begs25May09)
to see how they could help the young stars.
And after meeting with several of the film's stars at the private lounge of
the city's Jw Marriott hotel on Tuesday, Boyle announced he's purchased a new
home for Ismail and is planning to do the same to put a roof over Ali's head
too.
Boyle says, "The homes are a concern. That is one of the reasons why
we built the trust."
A spokesman for the Jai Ho Trust describes Ismail's new apartment as "comfortable,
in a good neighbourhood (and) near his school", with the property costing "upwards
of two million rupees" - $42,000 (£28,000).

Hanks Gets Fit After Williams' Heart Operation
27 May 2009 12:00 PM, PDT
Hollywood star Tom Hanks has been scared into shape by pal Robin Williams'
recent heart scare, and he's hired a new chef to help him stay trim.
Williams was forced to undergo heart surgery to replace a valve in March after
falling ill on a comedy tour.
Sources claim the scare shook Hanks into getting a check-up himself, and his
doctor warned him that yo-yoing dieting for film roles was damaging his health.
An insider tells the National Enquirer, "Tom's new chef travelled with
him on the Angels & Demons press junket. Robin's heart surgery really drove
home the point to Tom that if he wants to enjoy middle age, he'd better start
taking care of himself.
"At home and on the road, his full-time meal maestro cooks steamed or
broiled chicken, fish and lots of vegetables. Tom's favourite cookie-dough
ice cream is now a no no."

Beloved U.S. TV personality Ed McMahon has settled a lawsuit relating to a
2007 fall which left him with a broken neck - just a day before the case was
due to go to trial.
The former Tonight Show sidekick sued homeowners Robert and Kelly Days after

He took legal action for compensation over the "unsafe" stairs -
and the lawsuit was due to be heard by a Los Angeles County Superior Court

But the case was dismissed last Thursday after the two parties reached an
agreement out of court, reports TMZ.com.
The news comes just weeks after McMahon settled a lawsuit stemming from the
same incident with doctors at L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, after alleging
they misdiagnosed his neck fracture.
Details about both settlements have not been made public.

Hepburn Stamp Sells For More Than Double Reserve Bid
27 May 2009 9:05 AM, PDT
A rare stamp bearing the image of Audrey Hepburn smoking has gone under the
hammer for an astounding $93,800 (£62,530) at an auction in Germany.
The stamp is one of only five in existence, after the tragic movie icon's
son, Sean Ferrer, ordered the entire print run to be destroyed in 2001 following
its commission by the German government.
Ferrer objected to the photo of his late mother being used for the stamp and
refused to grant copyright because it showed her with a cigarette holder dangling
from her lips.
All but a handful were salvaged from destruction - and one stamp fetched more
than double its reserve bid of $41,959 (£27,972) when it went on sale on Tuesday.
The buyer's identity remains anonymous.
The Breakfast at Tiffany's star lost her battle with colon cancer in 1993

Schwarzenegger's Ego Bruised By Kids' Approval Of Terminator Salvation
27 May 2009 9:05 AM, PDT
Action star-turned-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger celebrated America's
Memorial Day weekend (23-25May09) by taking a family trip to the cinema -
to check out the latest movie in the franchise that shot him to superstardom.
The former actor went to watch Terminator Salvation with his wife Maria Shriver
and their four children, and he's given director McG's work the thumbs up.
But the original Terminator star admits he was left with a bruised ego after
his kids declared the new movie their favourite.
He says, "Oh yeah, the whole family went to see it. It's a great film,
I was very excited.
"The only thing about it was, I was a little upset because when we came
out, I said, 'What did you think of it?' and they said, 'That was the best
Terminator movie ever!' So that's really, like thanks a lot, that really helped
(my ego)."
Schwarzenegger starred in the first three Terminator films - 1984's The Terminator,
1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
in 2003.
He makes an appearance in Terminator Salvation - but didn't film a single
scene. Instead, producers used footage from the original trilogy and spliced
it into the new movie.

Izzard Rants Against Racist Politics
27 May 2009 5:15 AM, PDT
Funnyman Eddie Izzard is urging his fellow Brits to stand up to a tide of fascism
sweeping European politics - amid fears right-wing extremists could gain
a foothold in the U.K.
Political activists in Britain have launched a campaign after concerns grew
over the rise of far right-wing British National Party, whose members expect
to pick up thousands of votes in the upcoming European Parliamentary Elections
next month (June09).
And comedian-turned-actor Izzard has backed calls for voters to make a stand
against the controversial party to stop it gaining ground.
Izzard, who played a German World War II officer involved in a plot to assassinate
Adolf Hitler in 2008 movie Valkyrie, tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "We
all know the BNP is a racist party and racism is active hatred. The BNP talk
about racial purity, a concept they learned from Hitler.
"I was in the U.S. for the elections and witnessed Hope's great victory.
Yet now, in Britain, we are about to elect racists to represent us in Europe...
If you believe in humanity, in our modern, diverse country, I ask you to reject
the politics of hate."

Boyle To Have Moore's Support At Talent Show Final
27 May 2009 5:15 AM, PDT
Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle can expect some A-List supporters
at her next performance - Simon Cowell has offered to fly Demi Moore and
Ashton Kutcher over to the U.K. for the show's live finale.
The unlikely media phenomenon shot to stardom around the globe after blowing
the TV talent show's judges away with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from
Les Miserables.
Actress Moore further boosted Boyle's profile in the U.S. after taking to
her Twitter.com page to rave about the singer's performance.
And the social networking website has played a part in landing Moore and her
husband seats at the showdown on Saturday - after Cowell's fellow judge, Amanda
Holden, messaged the Ghost star to offer her the use of the music mogul's private
jet.
But Cowell obviously reigned in Holden's spending - telling her to offer the
superstar couple first class flight tickets and a stay at London's Dorchester
hotel instead.
Holden wrote to the star, "Message for Demi!! Please someone get this
to her as I am still rubbish at twittering. Simon says Yes!! But to first class
tickets!!!
"The final is this Saturday, we'll put you up in Dorchester and roll
out the red carpet!!"
Moore later replied, "What no private plane? lol (laugh out loud) Generous
offer! Thank you! And thank Simon!"

Stars Voice Disapproval Over Gay Marriage Ban
27 May 2009 5:15 AM, PDT
Lance Bass, Ellen DeGeneres and Kathy Griffin have all voiced their disapproval
at California officials' decision to uphold the state's gay marriage ban.
On Tuesday, the California Supreme Court opted not to overturn the ruling
which came into effect under the Proposition 8 legislation late last year -
six months after gay marriages were declared legal.
And celebrities, both gay and straight, have made it known how strongly they
disagree with the current law.
Gay singer Lance Bass released a statement, saying, "I can only hope
to one day live in a country that grants equal rights, opportunity, and freedom
to all citizens."
And DeGeneres, who married her partner Portia de Rossi just before the ruling
was overturned, believes it will be looked back on with contempt in the future.
She says, "I'm sure you heard the Prop 8 news. One day when everyone
is treated with full equality, we'll look back and realise how wrong this was."
And comedian Kathy Griffin spoke of her pride in her grandmother who took
to the streets to protest Proposition 8.
She explains, "My 89 year old mother has asked me to get her a wheelchair
to take her to a protest tonight, even though she isn't in the greatest of
health.
"She is neither gay, nor the parent of a gay person, but she is as passionate
about this decision as I am. I am so proud to march with her. Shame on the
CA Supreme Court for this decision that history will not look back on fondly."

Heigl Rep Shoots Down Salary Demand Rumours
27 May 2009 5:15 AM, PDT
Katherine Heigl's representative has lashed out at reports she was dropped
from an upcoming A-list movie ensemble due to her extortionate salary demands.
The Grey's Anatomy star, who broke into movies with 2007 comedy hit Knocked
Up, was expected to join Hollywood superstars Julia Roberts, Jennifer Garner
and Anne Hathaway in romantic comedy Valentine's Day, due to hit screens in
2011.
But according to online reports, the star was booted out of the casting line-up
after demanding payment of $3 million (£2 million) dollars, despite working
for a maximum of 14 days.
A source close to the project tells New York gossip column PageSix that "no
other actors asked for nearly that amount".
However, Heigl's publicist refutes the rumours - insisting it was the actress
who decided not to take part in the film.
The rep tells PageSix, "The story is ludicrous. Early negotiations are
a daily occurrence in this business, and just for clarification, Katherine
walked away from this project for multiple reasons."

is reportedly in Hollywood to begin writing a script for a remake of Guys
And Dolls.
The director, best known for his London-based crime films, is said to have
