Chasing Mavericks του Κέρτις Χάνσον με τους Τζέραρντ Μπάτλερ, Τζόνι Γουέστον, Ελίζαμπεθ Σου Υπόθεση: Καλώς ήλθατε στο Mavericks της βόρειας Καλιφόρνιας, όπου κάθε χρόνο διοργανώνεται το πιο συναρπαστικό κι επικίνδυνο ραντεβού για τους εραστές του σερφ, το Big Wave World Tour: και πιο συγκεκριμένα το “The Jay”, όπως ονομάστηκε, στη μνήμη του σερφίστα Τζέι Μοριάρτι. Ο νεαρός πρωταθλητής που δάμασε τα κύματα, βρήκε τραγικό θάνατο σε ηλικία μόλις 23 χρόνων - πρόλαβε όμως ν’ αφήσει πίσω του το πρότυπο του Soul Surfer, δηλαδή του αθλητή που αγωνίζεται όχι για τη νίκη, αλλά για την αγάπη προς τη θάλασσα.

Η ζωή του Μοριάρτι ενέπνευσε τον Κέρτις Χάνσον (“L.A. Confidential”) να σκηνοθετήσει την ταινία “Of Men and Mavericks” που ολοκληρώθηκε πρόσφατα με πολλές δυσκολίες, αφού ο πρωταγωνιστής Τζέραρντ Μπάτλερ (“300”) είχε ένα ατύχημα στη διάρκεια των γυρισμάτων που λίγο έλειψε να του κοστίσει τη ζωή. Αυτόπτες μάρτυρες ανέφεραν ότι ο Μπάτλερ χτυπήθηκε από πέντε διαδοχικά κύματα ύψους 6 μέτρων που τον έριξαν στα βράχια, και όταν ανασύρθηκε στην ακτή «είχε το απλανές βλέμμα του σερφίστα που μόλις αντίκρισε το θάνατο». Στην ταινία συμπρωταγωνιστούν ο ανερχόμενος Τζόνι Γουέστον και η Ελίζαμπεθ Σου (“Leaving Las Vegas”).

CHASING MAVERICKS is the inspirational true story of real life surfing phenom Jay Moriarity (played by newcomer Jonny Weston). When 15 year old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is not only real, but exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson (played by Gerard Butler) to train him to survive it. As Jay and Frosty embark on their quest to accomplish the impossible, they form a unique friendship that transforms both their lives, and their quest to tame Mavericks becomes about far more than surfing. Chasing Mavericks was made with the help of some of the biggest names in the surfing world, and features some of the most mind-blowing real wave footage ever captured on film.

Butler Keen To Carry On Filming After Surf Accident

Actor Gerard Butler attempted to avoid hospital treatment after an on-set surfing accident last month - so he could continue filming his new movie.

The 300 star was shooting Of Men And Mavericks in northern California when a large wave brought him crashing down, leaving him struggling to keep his head above the water.

Butler was taken to Stanford University Medical Center, but he had to be convinced by movie bosses to seek medical assistance.

He tells U.K. talk show host Graham Norton, "I was going to go back that day. I was actually in the ambulance and wanted to go back, which was a little crazy, but it's pretty addictive.

"This was maybe one of the few times that the reports were not exaggerated. It was a pretty close call... (The waves) just took me and I couldn't get up. It was pretty hairy."

But the incident helped Butler improve the portrayal of his character, surf enthusiast Rick 'Frosty' Hesson.

He adds, "In the movie, I put in a scene about a 'two wave hold down,' when you are down for so long that the next wave comes over before you get back up, and that's what happened to me. They finally grabbed me just as another huge wave was coming in. It was just like a movie! In fact, everything I talked about happening in the movie happened to me."

Butler Already Home After Successful Rehab Stint

A representative for Scottish actor Gerard Butler has confirmed reports the 300 star has sought help in rehab for substance abuse.

Rumours suggesting the hunk was in treatment circulated early on Friday but a spokesperson has told People.com the actor has already returned home after completing a rehab stint.

The insider says, "Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health. We will not be making any further comment at this time."

The 42 year old reportedly checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic in California three weeks ago after realising he was becoming reliant on prescription painkillers he had been taking since injuring himself in a surfing accident on the set of biopic Of Men and Mavericks at the end of last year. »
